A couple of my vivs past and present

The thrill of dart husbandry along w a great photo opportunity! I hope my tricolor start to breed soon. My males should be near old enough...

Once you pull the tads you should start a photo journal to document the development process.

I think doing a photo journal is a great idea. I literally squealed out loud (no making fun of me!) when I saw the transporting, these are the first good tads I have gotten out of this trio. After many bad clutches I was excited to say the least. Hope you start seeing the same with your tricolors soon. P.S. I have a buddy with around 20 extra adult maraspungas, so if you need to add to your group just let me know.

Ha, I'd squeal too so can't make fun. My Tricolor are St Isabel - anyway I need to keep my tricolor as a trio else i will be in the same bucket w 2 doz mouths to feed. Confusedhock: Tricolor are great, but they are overly prolific sometimes. If I hear of anyone looking I will pass the word.

Oh, I just assumed when you said tricolor that you meant Maraspunga. The Santa Isabel is an anthonyi morph...and an awesome one (I love mine). The only true tricolor morph in the hobby right now is Maraspunga, everything else that was formerly labelled tricolor is actually anthonyi (Buena Esperanza, Sarayunga, Salvias, etc...). But anyway, whatever they are classified as, they are still some of my favorite frogs and the first that I have ever had transporting, so I love em even more.

Saw more transporting today, three tads this time, unfortunately I missed the pic opportunity. I did take some more pics of the terribilis and one of the anthonyi tads for Scott:

Field,if this is your first clutch you have pulled just keep a close eye on those 2 eggs uppermost and slightly to the left, almost one below the other, you'll note from the pic it looks like one embyo is mishapen, watch in case they go bad.Mate thats from a novice,if you have already done all this,my apologies, but if you lost the cltuch through a bad egg and i didn't say anything i'd be kicking myself, good luck with them,oh cool little terribils,a friend down south showed us hers, man they were the biggest darts we have ever seen,i think she fed them small children, they were huge!! We decided that we best not keep them as we felt they would need such a large tank, but they are beautiful frogs,so not an easy decision

Hey Stu, thanks so much for the advice. I saw that they looked infertile, but was paranoid about trying to remove them. I am keeping a close eye on them, so far the good eggs are all developing nicely (knock on wood). You should most definitely consider some P. terribilis in the future, mine are still young but are probably my boldest and most active frogs.

Problem is with leaving them is sometimes they go bad and take out others ajoining them.I posted here on the breeder section, about leaving them or removing,i think Lisa told me how she removes them with a turkey baster, its scarey stuff at first Field,i shared your paranoia!! But i had to learn this as i lost a clutch, its funny how multiple times of doing something that one is initially worried by removes that worry,i'm almost blase about it now, depending on where the bad egg is i either use the baster or a couple of plant lables,or maybe a plastic teaspoon, its much easier than one thinks.
Ha trouble is we love most of these frogs, terribilis were always on our must have list, but having built the racking already,I'm confined to viv sizes. The only places terribilis could go is up top,in a 2' cube, which i fear will be too warm for them.We only have a little cottage here so having devoted one room to frogs, there is not really any other places i could put a viv,our front room is out because of a coal/wood burner, and fears of fumes affecting the frogs. So i've scuppered myself. They are stunning frogs we always lust after them everytime we see them. We have a bit of a hang up about viv sizes, not being too small, which is why i'd personally want these guys in a big ol' viv.
Best of luck with them mate

Thanks Stu, I went ahead and faced my fears...they are now removed and it was waaaay less scary than I thought it would be. The others are still looking great, so I'm hoping for the best. I understand the space issues, especially with the terribilis. I don't know if I want to do a big build (if I can find a place for it) and put them all in there, or try to split them into smaller groups. I guess I have a while before I really have to figure that out though. Thanks again for all of your help!

Well done mate,i did this for the first time only seems yesterday, damn even i can remember it  i totally understand your fears, anyway the jobs a good un,now i've just got to be patient to wait for the tad pics 8) , your welcome it all goes around in a circle mate, and the frogs win, cool ain't it.
Our biggest tanks will be the 2'cubes i guess,i'd be lying if i said iwouldn't love a crack at something much bigger.I find the smaller tanks much harder to background personally, mind i love this side of the hobby making up the vivs,as above good luck mate
