Poll - illegal and legal frog list ?
#21
I am going to apologize now, and hijack this thread a second.....

I have talked many times to DNR and USFW. They can be a good resource. But as to my above comment. Stop listing your stuff in your signature and posting full pics of your frog room online.

There is a hobbyist on-line who speaks very softly. Thru his constant bragging, Everyone knows his full name, the town he lives in, his occupation, where he works, and that he has 110 vivs full of higher priced frogs. He better also have ADT putting that stuff on-line. Someone could call his office to verify he is at work, back up a van, and steal his entire collection. Because HE gave them all the info on line to rip him off.

Think, don't brag

Anybody who has Internet access can look up my personal addy.
Anybody who has shipped to me or sent me a check has my personal addy.
ADT? Many of us have much better 'security' than that.
If someone is that determined to find an addy and a work schedule, it's gonna happen.
And if they think they are going to walk into my place and walk out with frogs I've not given out...they have a number of surprises coming to them.

Now, back to our "mysties really are the only 100% illegal dart declared by our F+W" program. Enjoy your Brazillian Yellow Heads.
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

So if E.mysteriosis is indeed a frog that they will not allow thru customs EVEN with legit CB European paperwork....then why exactly ?

The only reason must be that like Brazil did with the Brazil nut frog (Castis) - petitioned the US Government to specifically prohibit them ?

The Peruvian government did indeed contact our government stating that that specific frog has never been legally exported , for ANY reason, and they considered any outside of their borders as stolen property. Simple.

Have they said what should be done with the stock currently in the EU? Destroyed? Returned?

I have no idea. In some EU countries they are also100% illegal , others seem to not give a damn about them at all.
But, it says something when a country prioritizes a frog and makes statements such as "a stolen". It is also interesting that a guy who was once funded by The World Bank for breeding projects is also the guy who was largely responsible for a great number of the EU stock right now. No, not naming names.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to add my thoughts and opinions regarding this discussion. Personally, I believe that conservation is a huge and important step forward that this hobby needs to take. It is imperative that we all support the various organizations that work very hard to bring quality, captive-bred amphibians into the hobby LEGALLY. The illegal pet trade is a vicious cycle that needs to be stopped. With regards to amphibians in the hobby, please keep in mind that the only species from Ecuador that are legal are from Wikiri. These species are:

Oophaga sylvatica (Paru morph)
Gastrotheca riobambae
Ceratophrys stolzmanni
Hypsiboas picturatus
Agalychnis spurrelli

The only true Dendrobatidae is Oophaga sylvatica (Paru morph). Please make a conscientious choice when purchasing your animals. It's time this hobby gives something back to the rainforest where these amazing creatures come from. The best way to do that is by supporting the great organizations like Wikiri that work to preserve these habitats in nature, as well as the animals themselves.
