Springtails - how many different species?
#1
I am on a mission to collect all the springtails we have available for the hobby.

I know of the following..

white
silver
blue
black
pink

Are there any I am missing?

...about 6000.
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

You're going to need a bigger bug room! Wink

Seriously though, there are over 6000 species of springs and most of them can be cultured. I'd dare say there are very multiple species of pinks, and very multiple white, etc.

we can probably narrow it down to which several species seem to be commonly used in the U.S hobby though.

Problem with that is there are most likely multiple white or multiple black, etc. in the hobby. CR pink or dwarf white is at least a little step up in specificity.

OK let's start with black springs....

I don't know anyone that has them.
Except for Matt Olsen, but his have centipede spring tails mixed in with them.

Anyone know where I can get black springs?

You would think there would be more variety in the hobby.

Well, part of my point is that if there are no accurate labels there quite likely are many blacks, whites, pinks, etc. and they quite likely are different species being used now.
I know plenty of guys who go out an collect their own in their area after rains and such. If I did that and brought back a few different species of collembola I'd have no idea what to properly label them. Black and white are not always black or white.

I'd start by asking you to post a picture of said 'black springs', then I can possibly answer the question.
