Thought I would share a photo of a native critter I had not seen before. My son caught this little guy (1" long) in the backyard yesterday. Goes by the local name of ironclad beetle. It's an appropriate name - this thing was as hard as a rock - made a loud ping when it hit the bottom of the collection bucket. Snapped a photo then let it go on its way:
