a place to get suitable driftwood cheap?

thats what was concerning me. I have also heard that drift wood can carry bacteria and microbes that can make reptiles and amphibions sick.

Just wondering if there is any validity to this or if it is safe to harvest natural driftwood.

Well the wood that the guys sells on this thread is collected from the swamps of Louisiana, I dont think he treats it any certain way. I dont know about salt water driftwood, I bet if you cleaned it and soaked it in fresh water it would be fine.

I always power washed the wood and then put it in a large plastic container with a 20 % bleach water solution. It soaked for 20 minutes. Then I rinsed it off and used a chlorine remover for a fish tank in more water for 20 more minutes. I always did that for fish and frogs. You never know what kind of bacteria is being harbored there. If you don't mind it drying out, you can bake it on the oven at 200 degrees for 30 minutes. Then let it cool slowly. That'll kill those lil buggers. Barb

My first love is planted FW fish tanks. That is what got me looking into the vivarium realm... wanted something new so I am converting one of my 90s into a frog vivarium over the next 6 months or so.

I have purchased excellent quality driftwood from aquariumdriftwood.com at VERY decent prices.
