Atelopus barbotini build
#1
Figured we should generate some new build discussions! I've been slowly working on an Atelopus barbotini build that has three phases - a forest vivarium housing the females, a stream vivarium housing the males, and a grow out sump (hopefully) housing tadpoles. I have build the forest setup already and am working on the sump now. Plumbing and a display cart build is next, and I'll finish up with the stream build.

The critters for those unfamiliar with the species:

I've documented the details on a post on my blog:

Here's the forest build:

The sump:

I'm working on the plumbing next - overflow and returns to the stream from the sump. After that I have to build the cart housing all this stuff, then stream hardscaping. Fun times!

Lol yeah - it has been a while! My frog projects have been fairly static, so no major updates. I got out of tincs because there is just too much confusion and lax keeping of locales / imports for me, so I focused on thumbnails and microgeckos.

I liked the complex requirements for this barbotini project (and who wouldn't like a purple toad?), so I've been focusing on this now. A legit excuse for a water feature in a vivarium Smile (but it's not a dart frog vivarium).

The person who bred them and gave me all these tips (he offers captive bred animals on morph market from time to time):

Here's a video of his incredible stream build:

Progress! Finally got enough time to build the custom wood rack for the display. All the vivs are in, and the remaining major item is to get the stream vivarium built. The plants in the grow out sump are there temporarily - eventually I will use them in the stream build and flat stones will go in the sump for algae growth for the tadpoles.

I found these detachable shop cart wheels that looked interesting for this project. I won't be moving the rack often, and it does slide well on felt pads, but I wanted to be able to attach wheels in case I needed to move the rack to a different room.

Some shots of the timers, pumps, and pump controllers.

Curious inhabitants after they were relocated to the rack:

Close up of the forest build where all four animals are for now. I just gave it a really good pruning and new leaf litter. Eventually the males (suspected 3.1) will live in the stream build year round, and the female will rotate from the forest build to the stream build when it's time to breed.
