Temp effecting FF culture shipping
#1

I have noticed that several vendors state that they won't ship fruit flies when the temperature is above 90 deg. Nothing is stated about cold weather. Does cold weather effect, or kill them also?

The reason we don't ship flies when it is really hot is due to the fact that high temps make flies sterile. As far as shipping when cold, if you know how to package flies well, use insulated boxes, and appropriate heat packs, you can ship flies pretty well in really cold weather. I have sent flies with no problems to places that never saw 30 degrees in transit.

Thanks, I thought you could use heat packs but wasn't sure how cold they would work ok.
