Pea Aphids - Anyone using them ?
#61
It would be easy to raise 4-6 Aphid cultures in a humidity controlled aquarium, wouldn't it ?

Move the decimal point a couple times and you have my interest.
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

yeah, that would be cool to try for 20-30 of bangin' cx's at one time - to see what kind of feeder effect you could have on the entire collection. I'm going to give em a try at some point, just to see how I do with them.

It's possible that humidity could be an issue, but to be honest I've never had much of a problem with it. Usually the problems are temperature - too high = poor quality wilting plants and very few aphids, or cultures only produce one yielld, or too many peas added to a culture/too wet culture = rotten peas and a bad smell.

15C, moist but not wet tissue paper at the bottom and a single layer of peas and you can't go wrong. Should get two good yields from a culture each of more biomass than you would get from similar sized mel culture.

(I'm not lobbying for the pea-grower's alliance by the way - just putting the info out there for anyone who wants to try!!)

But maybe you are a lobbyist against American pea-growers and hope we all start producing these little terrors to quash our much needed pea production here Dr. Nick. If that is your real name.
