Don't label any of the new imports "Christobals"..
#1
......as they are quite likely not.

I have already seen WAY too many posts calling some of these new imports by incorrect or at the very least, unconfirmed names.

Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

I will no longer purchase any new frogs coming into the hobby without this info.

I have no problem with froggers keeping these new imports. They keep the Mans and Grandes , same difference, but I do not like it at all when someone dreams up a morph. If you know exactly where they came from go for it , otherwise let's not guess at morphs.
I for one will NEVER be breeding what is now being called "Christobals" with any of the San Christobals I am working with. It will never happen.

Keeping them is one thing...breeding them is another. Who knows what is being mixed? Also keeping/breeding these incoming frogs muddies the already murky identification scene. What do you think of Rob's registry project? It just seems like a responsible and easy solution to correct what is so apparently easy to fix with new stuff coming in. I know that you'll probably say that there is and has been all kinds of mixing going on. I would just say that it would be nice to do it right and learn from our mistakes going forward.

Hey David,

I think Robbs registry is a great idea and MUCH needed.
I am not sure how it would help the situation as far as finding out where these frogs come from or what exact morph they are, but ANY positive info is better than none.
I think my tinc analogy/post on the new imports pretty much sums up my feelings on what is what with these new pums.

Did you see that they have collection data now? Turns out, they are Christobals. Interesting...

It turns out someone down in Panama is calling them Christobal...........
They are also calling some of the morphs Uyama River, and I don't think they look at all like the Uyama River I am working with......

And what exactly is a "Christobal"? I thought the correct term was San Christobal.
Unless they are two different morphs.

The island is technically called, Isla San Christobal, but for short, "Christobal" seems to work.

To my understanding, the Uyamas are highly variable. Kinda like our friends from Bastimentos.

I am holding back final judgement (I suggest others to do this also) until much more facts are released........
I seem to remember froggers about two years ago throwing around labels like "Blue Jean", "Bruno", " and a host of other mislabeled Pum morphs.

In all honesty, I don't think we'll ever know the hard truth unless we go down there and collect them our damn self.

Wouldn't THAT be nice?

With these new imports ,no, we will not know for certain.
With the Uyama River, San Christobal, Darklands, Pope Island, Cayo de Aqua, and Nancies I am working with yes, there is exact site local info. This is why I do not like labels being put on any of these morphs unless we know for sure.

Well, SNDF did go to Panama to confirm, but who knows, the guy could've been taking them for a ride.

Unless Marcus saw someone actually catch the frogs, this is second ,third , fourth had info.
I am not saying they are or are not anything. I hold my guesses on all of these morphs.
I am saying that the is no proof of what any of them are.
I will not be mixing lines of any of the new imports as they are being imported now. This may change, it may not.

We were talking about this in DB chat tonight. Supposedly, and this is from a pretty good source... who got it straight from Marcus B. that he knows one of the collectors or exporters, whatever personally, and got the info from this guy first hand, while in panama recently.

I was not as quick as some to just go with the info given...but this makes me feel a little better about it. Like Rich though i still wouldnt want to mix these with any others. But atleast we have a little more guidance in pairing up the imports with each other and labeling them something. Still need to be careful calling them uyamas, or crists, etc....so they dont get mixed with others already in country. Of course most of these are in the hands of people like Rich arent they ?

Usually when we are talking about facts, hard facts, and scientific taxonomy, we are a bit more hard nosed than a simple second , third, or twentieth hand label.
If I were buying (or looking for) a pure bred "Whatever" dog, cat , pig, ect., I would be damn sure that before I mixed the "Rot" with my Rots I knew exactly what was what."Whatevers" and "whatevers " do not a species make.
Why should we ask for ,or accept anything less?
Not a perfect world, but slapping a Corvette sticker on my S10 does not make it a Corvette.

arent these pretty big rivers? couldnt they be 3 uyuma morphs 2 or more chrisobals and x # of rio branco morphs. if you traveled down any of these rivers i imagine you`d find more than 1 morph as you went along the river. you may find different morphs from either side of the river also. how do we decide which should stay w/ which. i have 2 pairs breeding from this import and they all look pretty much identical. blue legs and orange background w/ brown patterning. i`d just try to keep similar colors together till we know more. if someone does document where each color variant is found and which ones are mixed we can kinda sort them out then.

Who has actually seen their frogs being collected in the wild?
Rich, what kind of info is supplied to you when you get a new group of frogs?
