I'm interested in starting with a Dart Frog species that is not hard to keep (comparatively), or extremely expensive (comparatively again) so most likely a tinc or arautus, unless someone has a better suggestion.
I would appreciate anyones input on where to get these (or other suggested beginner species) at a reasonable price.
Thanks !
Hi Ara,
Well easy frogs to take care for are, G/B auratus. I would recommend starting with those. They are very affordable and hardy animals.
Cheers
Xavier
D. tincs would be a good choice to and would be a litt more active then auratus but do cost a little more.

I would totally agree with Frogletier the green and black auratus are a great starter frog and are usually about 25-30 bucks each. Lucomelas (spelling?) are also very hardy and mine were very active in the tank which was nice although they cost a little bit more. Stay away from the very small frogs (pumilio, imitator, etc..) or thumbnail types. Very hard for a beginner to raise as the food has to be very small.
Frogletier,
What frog do you have on your avatar?
Mike
Looks like a histrionicus
Arachnid,
You might get a good deal of frogs at a regional frog show. See if you have a herp club in your area, sometimes the members with frogs will sale them cheap.
Mike
So the auratus and pumilio do fine in the same tank? I getting ready to add another viv (20g), getting the tank today.
