I am looking at flying from Atlanta to go to some of the shows around the country. Does anyone know how difficult it is to fly with frogs and if the airlines even allow it?
I'm a little nervous that they wouldn't know what they were and then think they were illegal imports considering airport people probably have no clue what certain frogs look like.

You could always package them and put them in a carry-on. Seeing as they are harmless and they are so small, I dont think you would have a problem. I would still try to call the airlines before hand though.

I think taking the frogs on board via carry on is the best idea for flying with frogs. As far as it being a problem, you may want to check with the airline ahead of time just to make sure if some dude/gal in a bad mood checking bags givea you a hard time, you can say you have already checked the airline rules and what you are doing is completely legal and acceptable.

We have been flying to events with frogs for about 6 years, and I am a firm believer in the "No ask, no tell" philosophy. The TSA could care less, it is the airlines that have the 'rules' as to what if any, animals can be brought on.
We have a carry on that is well within the allotted dimensions, the frogs get packed in deli cups placed in the bag and the bag is sent through X Ray with NO attention drawn to the bag. IF someone should question the contents we tell them they are tropical frogs, and leave it at that.
I can't say I have ever heard of anyone having a problem with carry on frogs when handled this way.

In that case, go with the Don't Ask, Don't Tell suggestion. If the people checking your bags don't care, then you should have no issues.

an the xray machine doesnt harm the frogs??

The X-ray they use is a very low level, and we have never noticed any ill effects.

Thanks for all the replies. I was unable to plan for the NAAC this weekend, but I'll let you know how it goes when I plan for my next Frog Traveling Experience :lol:

I have always wondered too, as going through security has been extremely tight nowadays, but if you are very concerned, maybe plan a trip driving to a conference that is closer. it would also be nice to have some new conferences set up so others have more opportunities in the future, versus having to fly across country. Me and someone on dendro have been debating this as we both live in MN and conferences this way are at closest like Chicago. It'd be nice to set up and start something closer as not many conferences are near MN or people in MN with darts or even interest.
