Classroom Pet

Hi all,

I have a classroom terrarium that I have been maintaining for a while now. I teach fifth grade. I see that there is quite a market for Dart frogs, and I would love to be able to add a couple to my terrarium. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has an abundance and would be willing to donate them to my classroom or give me a discount on pricing. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gail! I'm a teacher too, fourth-grade. I'm adding a pair of PDFs to my classroom this fall. I am very excited about it and I'm sure my students will be too! Did you find any frogs yet? I have been wanting these frogs for my classroom for a couple of years now, but they are expensive for someone on a teacher's salary! What I did was write a grant. It won't cover everything, but it sure did help. I am getting a male/female adult pair of azureus, so hopefully the kids will get to see the life cycle this year. This forum has been a great source of information, as well as links to other great sites.

I'm not quite sure if thats what you were talking about when you said, "add a few dart frogs to my terrarium".

I tried to add some darts to my classroom, but unfortunately, they school system would not allow it based on the idea they they could be a danger to the students (this is in middle school).

My principal has been very supportive of me getting dart frogs in my classroom. I made sure that he and my students' parents were well educated on the fact that they are not poisonous in captivity. In addition, I let the parents know that students would not be handling the frogs anyway. They are for observation only, but this is for the health of the frogs! My students all researched a different aspect of the frogs and we put it all together into a class book. They are very excited. The tank is all ready and we will be getting our frogs very soon I hope. Fran
