Thank you,...thank you very much.
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

I would like to add that I would say I am well under 40 hrs of work on this whole project. I have been out of town for the past two weekends,

The only thing that tropical paradise is missing is a tiki bar with margaritas. Oh, it would be soooo nice to be a frog in Rich's greenhouse!!!

OK, so I have sealed the door, inside and out, and added a hatch from an extra acrylic tank I had lying around.
I have also added glass to the door for viewing. I will be adding a couple more glass ports to view through.
The acrylic hatch is plenty large enough to crawl through.

Two new view ports are installed. Trimming it out is next.

Thanks for the compliments.
I plan on putting the Darklands in sometime next week. I want to make sure that I have sealed every possible crack and I still need about twenty more broms.
I have a terribilis in there to make sure there is nothing bad (unhealthy)going on. He/she is very easy to keep track of (compared to its tank mate the juvi powder blue) . I figure if he is still hopping around after a week of being in the GH, the Darklands should be safe also.

Found some shrooms today...all over the house. Pretty cool. I am just waiting on a bunch of broms and the Darklands go in. The terribilis is fine and moving around lovin the place.

Awesome...what substrate mix did you guys use?

Thanks,
The base is peat brick. On top of that is "organic" peat with cyprus mulch, leaf litter, and dry moss. I used hydroton around my drain area.

How deep are the LECA and substrate layers in this viv?

Luke

The base is made of 2X8s . The substrate is anywhere from 7" (flush with the 2X8s) to about 22" deep. The hydroton is about 7" covering the drain screen going into my sump.

How is the sump set up? Since the viv is on the ground, it seems as though you can't use gravity to drain the viv...do you use an extra pump?

Luke,
Take a look at the third and fourth pics on page two. You can see the drain is notched down from the 2X8 so about 3" below the 7" minimum substrate level there is drainage. The drain is at 4" , the substrate a minimum of 7".

Ahhh...i see, but why such a big sump if the water level could only reach the hieght of the drain? At first when I saw the sump, I thought you were going to create a self sustaining food network with a compost heap.

That is what I had, big. Besides, the bigger footprint, the more water it will hold without having to be topped off. I have yet to notice any overflow from the GH yet.
A compost seems un-needed. I will have seeded STs and FF flyers buzzing around, ants, hopefully firebrats, and a few other things. But in order to make sure the frogs are getting supplements I will target feed some dusted FF maggots and FFs, and have some small amounts of fruit sitting in "piles" of supplement dust.

I understand the bigger footprint, but why is the sump so high. The water will drain into the sump only until the sump level reaches the drain level. Once the sump water level is at the same hieght as the drain it will be in equilibrium and will not drain anymore. So all of the hieght above the drain will be unused. That is what I was wondering...

BTW, I'm sure all of your other frogs will be quite jealous of the feast the 3 darklands will be getting...maybe you could hand out doggy bags or something Wink

The big broms are blooming.
I am hoping to be able to substitute the trio pic with Dark blue frogs next week.
