Oophaga granulifera being imported as O. pumilio
#1
This is quite the interesting one.

You would think someone importing for research would pretty much know exactly what he/she was importing...

Thoughts ?

Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

Do you think its possible they where snuck out as pumilio and the people checking didn't do anything about it because it was for research ? Having never done an import I am speculating here.

Well, I know that plenty of grannies have come into this country as "pumilio".

This pic of a "Pope" pumilio, is the only pumilio morph that looks a bit like a blue and green granny. I have more "Pope" pumilio pics that look even more like grannies, but those go into my upcoming book. I'm sure inspectors could be fooled into believing that blue and green grannies were pumilio...

There may either be bad info from his "buddy" concerning what he has, bad info concerning what he was supposed to bring in , or any number of other things. I have not viewed the pics because of the banning issue, so I can't give a good read on those.

I am more interest in how his bud got paperwork for Costa Rica...

You are right. The one looks like a B+G granny, although it is a TINY pic. Looks very much so though. Legs are very bright . And the other is a Bri Bri , I have to assume.
Anyone want to ask him to post what info he has on the research and such? I.E. , more info...
No way C.R. is letting grannies out legally ,in my opinion.

I guess I expect too much when I assume most people should have skin thicker than a bowl of pudding. That's crazy. A guy who knows not of what he speaks pops in with potentially illegal frogs and his wittle feelings get hurt. Boo freekin' hoo. I read the thread any nobody said anything (not that they could over there) out of line.

well if he was doing "pumilio " research with grannies, one things for sure... that research is now officially WORTHLESS in the eyes of the scientific community. And if there were grannies mixed into the pums and they BRED.......He says there are proven pairs. Do all of them match up morph to morph, god I hope there's THAT at least. Proven?..... where are the other offspring, hmmmmmmmmm Be on the lookout for some granuliferous, I guess. The green and blue frog pictured is certainly striking, whether grannie or pumilio
think, it aint illegal yet

Yeh, I'm calling BS on a few different aspects of the post. But I'm fairly sure this guy is going to clam up on the topic. Just a guess...

Wouldn't be surprised if they came in via film cans.

I'm not going to comment on what is going on since I, like rich, am not able to see dendroboard but you have to be a real dumbass to confuse a grannie with pumilio, the size difference is huge.

Yup, HUGE size difference . And that was a Pope I posted a pic of . Smallest pum I work with. That's the only pum I know that looks close to a granny.

The only question is , who is the dumbass? The poster? The "researcher" buddy? Or, the F+W inspection team?...
