EXACTLY HOW TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE AN "ACCIDENT"
#1
Over the last few years I have read of people claiming to have accidentally created hybrids and/or mixed local frogs.
I really fail to see how this can happen. So, I'll put out the info as to how to not let these accidents happen.
If you have a frog from one local , and another frog from a known different local, simply do not put them together!
I know, a mind blowing thought process!
It is impossible for two frogs to mate if they are not together. Another crazy statement from Rich. I know , I know.

It is not an accident when known frogs of different locals are knowingly placed together.
So , for those who can't seem to grasp the concept , and those who seem to have a lot of "accidents", let me spell it out once again.

Using one viv as a 'holding' station, or quarantineing frogs from different locals and possibly different vendors or froggers is a recipe for diaster. The possibility of communal disease is escalated, and guess what...you just may get a little 'surprise' a couple months down the line.

I really fail to see how purposely placing two frogs from different locals in one tank is an "accident" , but for those who can't figure out how their little 'accidents' ended up hoppin' around, you may wish to keep two different locals separated at all times.
Mind blowing , crazy, outside the box thinking.

Sorry for the rant, but in this day and age of actually knowing how offspring are produced I find the chances of hybrid accidents slim or none.

Rant over.

Rich

PS,

FOR THOSE WHO CONSIDER THIS POST A BIT TO HARSH, I ASSURE YOU , THE HARSHNESS WAS PURELY ACCIDENTAL.
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

Thank you. It seems over the past two years it is getting taboo to chastise the accidental hybrids much less their creators. I guess it is increasingly more important to watch who we associate and buy frogs from. Weird how a certain thread got locked.

Exactly.
What are we pre-teeners? The mystery of what it takes to produce offspring was cracked awhile ago.
Not accidents. Mistakes. Purposeful mistakes.
I'm shocked the thread got locked. Shocked I tell ya.

If you can afford the frogs, afford to feed them, and afford the computer to talk and post pics of these frogs then why can you not afford to buy a ten gallon to use as a holding tank or better yet a second one to use as a back up for the first holding tank?
I often wonder if these situations are really accidents becouse the hybrids are shown off in a fashion as if they are being advertised without actually listing a price on them.
I dont know about most of you but I would have never allowed the eggs to make it to morphing froglets if I suspected a hybrid situation but I guess some people see every egg as money in their pocket no matter what the situation ethically calls for.
There is also a huge problem with everytime a hybrid gets posted there is a long thread of people trying to purchase or aquire it and why is that?
There should be a community list of hybrid producers whether intentional or not so we can stay clear of these people. If you make this big of a mistake what other mistakes do you make and does it affect the care of your frogs? I bet so!
Just my 2 cents.

The eggs simply should have been flushed. Done.
I think it is becoming time to publish a list of purposeful hybridizers. And they pretty much are all purposeful.
Some people actually think that mutts, just because they are different, will fetch more $$. Boy are they wrong...

Only I can have mixed tanks with no problems of hybrids showing up. Reginas, Yellowbacks, Sauls, Matechos, I believe they call them dividers!

Lurker here.

Rich, I share your passion against hybridization, although mine stems from the exotic fish/dwarf shrimp world. However, I have found that education and information have served as the best deterrents, not sarcasm and cynicism. The people that do it and don't care will continue to do it no matter what, however, the people that do it and don't realize it will respond much better to a straightforward and well thought out argument compared to repeated angry diatribes.

Just thought I'd share some thoughts and experience on the same issues I have campaigned for in a different area (Doesn't hurt that I need two replies to ask my question either)...
