Checklist of things to consider before acquiring Dart Frogs.
By Rich Frye, with some editing by me.

I understand impulses. Darts are very cool frogs, but before you even think about buying your frogs, print this page out and take a look at the following 13 questions. It will serve as a "checklist" for you. All the answers are already posted and contained in this Forum. If you still can't find your specific answer to your checklist, feel free to post a new thread asking for it and we will help. Peruse this entire forum -Dart Den, and all it's sub forums and stickied threads. Take 4, 12, 20 or however many hours you need to read and read...and read some more. Use the search function / button on the top right corner of the page as well and above all, enjoy yourself here !

Ask yourself, do I fully understand...?

1.  Temperature and Humidity requirements and the proper ranges?

2.  What it takes to feed these frogs -Culture fruit flies and supplement use is non negotiable?

3.  Quarantine Container already set up?

4.  Mixing different species and sizes of frogs is best left to those who have much dart experience?

5.  A bigger Vivarium is better and it is far from a rule that 5 gallons per frog is sufficient?

6.  How to construct and furnish the vivarium, including plants that are best for specific species? What are visual barriers, hides, retreats and species specific breeding bowers?

7.  What frog species are best for beginners?

8.  Are there local veterinarians, not just asking for help strictly from the internet, if things turn bad? The collecting of fecals and testing for problems.

9.  How much light my plants, and my frogs, need?

10. Proper substrate and composition?

11. The difference between wild caught frogs (WC) vs. captive bred dart frogs (CB)?

12. The correct water to use. Various misting techniques, equipment and frequency?

13. Not being able to touch or hold the frogs? Children, cat or dog considerations.
