What exactly is a "Blue Jeans" pumilio ?
#1
This is another "Hot Topic" in the Dart Frog hobby, that often needs repeating discussions from time to time...

It is well known amongst importers that a much hyped buzzword used in the dart frog hobby is "blue jeans" and they use it "generously" to market and sell Panamanian Almirante and Man Creek morphs - some of which have greyish blue leg colouring.

Everyone I've talked to, to include Marcus B and Sean S agree that the term "blue jeans" should be limited to populations found in Costa Rica and possibly Nicaragua.

To refer to any Panamanian pumilio as a "blue jeans" morph is just plain wrong, IMO.

Also see the recent attempts to seperate those C.R and Nico populations into a new species.

The range of the "Blue Jean" morph extends from Nicaragua to @ halfway down the Atlantic Costa Rican coast, I believe.

Some of the late 1990's imports were definitely from Nico and are decidedly different than anything I've seen imported lately IF any of those older imports are still alive in the U.S hobby today, that is.

I'm seeing pics of spotted backed / speckled , almost "bri-bri" looking pumilio, but with the blue legs. Anyone have some pics of "Blue Jean" pumilio with odd dorsal markings ?

I would consider that frog to be pretty "typical" or representative of the blue jean morph - more or less solid colour and pattern - no spots or black marks.

The hobby vernacular is pretty entrenched since the 80's.

'Blue Jeans' morph as related to the hobby are only found in Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

No matter how 'red' the body is and how blue or grey-blue the legs are, there are no 'blue jeans' in Panama.
