Obviously we need to add " Age of Dart Frog Hobbyists using online Forums" , as only those who are active online and signed up for various forums are going to be able to vote ect....

Well I fit into the 34-40 range. Turning 40 this year and on Easter no less. I get to celebrate the day prior with all my Southern California Frog people with a SCADS meeting at Brians house.

Wow, so far the lead is in my age group. Before I seen the results so far I was thinking the average would be the 40s

30 yrs old...What Id like to see is either a poll on how many years experience the average hobbyists on the boards have as well as at what age they entered the hobby. I was 19 when I grabbed up my first darts.
Reason for my wondering is that the boards have had more posters in the last year than ever. I tink the seasoned hobbyists to new hobbyists ratio has changed more than ever.

Feeling a bit old, I am in a new age category on your chart Phil. I started at 17 with my successful keeping. I got my first frogs that died at a younger age. 27, bald and 60LB lighter than last year.

I got my first PDFs last year, when I was 45 :mrgreen:
Got my first toad at 31, first frogs at 34.

I was kicking 40 when I got started in the hobby, most of my friends in the hobby are much younger than me, save one who is one year younger.
I always feel like an "old fart" when it comes to the age of PDF hobbiests.

47 here...What do most consider a seasoned hobbyist? 5-10 years? Someone could have 10 years under their belt and never have bred a frog...I don't think it is a time frame, myself.

By seasoned hobbyists I meant the ones with experience as far as being able to teach and help new hobbyists. Had nothing to do with actual age or time in the hobby as I know a couple guys I was in the hobby before and they are far more advanced in knowledge than I am....
But if you look at DB the numbers of people their asking questions to the ones answering, well the ones with their own experience answering has lessened. The only thing I see that is an issue is new hobbyists teaching others based on what they have been told, not experienced and there for cant go further into detail about it if asked.

Michael Humm thats an interesting question that i think has way to many variables to present an accurate poll for.. as mentioned above you could have been in the hobby for years and never bred anything... on the flip side you can also have only been in the hobby for a year, maybe two and already be breeding things like mad.. but the problem is the successful person thats only been in the hobby for a year or two still has not made mistakes the other that has been in it for years has.
that also depends on the individuals amount of involvement in the hobby. if you've been in it for ten years and haven't bred anything then i doubt thats your focus or goal... i mean really, breeding darts isn't to difficult. so that could very well mean that the person thats been "doing it forever" hasn't even really opened a book on them..
I wonder... if a poll taken nation wide would show that the ability to use common sense and deductive reasoning may have plummeted in the last 10 years.

wow....I totally would have lost money on this poll. I though for sure the 26 and under crowd would be kicking butt....
Are we not getting the "facebook crowd" since our facebook page is newly made ? It seems like all the DB people hanging over there are of that demographic...

There are few new hobbyists here. They all start on DB you know how it is. Another thought on all this I had as far as wondering the average age of new hobbyists as that the ones teaching other's what they dont understand themselves. Are they the older or younger crowd? Many older hobbyists come as seasoned vets of other hobbys so I would think they wouldnt be the ones.

That is again tough... young people generally don't know what they are talking about due to lack of experience, however older people sometimes tend to stick to what they know even when its outdated and wrong....
