Quick question. I cant seem to find it in this post anywhere.

What do you guys recommend for the racks? I thought i saw something
once about a "Bakers Rack"?

I want something that will be capable of housing 3 18x18x24's per a shelf.

Like Phil posted above. You can find them at Lowes, Target, Costco, etc. A 48" bakers rack would work for you. Though remember on a 48" rack you only have 45" of usable space. SO 3 18x18x24 will not fit on one shelf. You can find a 60" one I believe

in case you dont have the exo terras yet, they measure around 19" because of the base. I'm not 100% sure you'll fit 3 on a 60" rack, but I don't know for sure. If you want, I can measure tonight the exact size of an 18" exo.

Im also considering doing a 40gal breeder... vert. I may just make a stand out of some 2x4s and plywood with a nice varnish finish. idk. If i do ill make a build thread =)

Thought Id share some thoughts on Frog Room Maint: So over the last few months I have eliminated some 200+ spiders! Yes, I kept a tic sheet. I dont use insecticide in my home since getting frogs. I am no spider expert, but guessing I have seen maybe 4-5 different species in my frog room, not counting wolf spiders. They do a good job of controlling FF escapees, but it takes a few hours every other week or so to monitor and control the spider population. Just something to add to the list of up keep when you have a group of vivs together.

Hahaha, i went through the exact same thing. Before my vivariums were just ontop of a computer desk. One day i glanced under the desk and was astonished with the amount of spiders living and breeding under there. Quickly, thinking of Phils shop vac tip: I ran to the garage, picked up my shop vac and wiped out the population. Soon after i purchased a baker rake for my vivariums. A month or two later now the spider population on my rack is a grand total of 1. He is doing very well cleaning up the fruitflies and growing quite quickly. I am starting to worry he may begin breeding though, so i think his days may be numbered. In the end, i think a couple spiders are not bad but when you reach 20+ you may want to consider down sizing the population. My 2cents

You may recall my house was built in the 50s and those subfloors are a breeding ground for spiders. Impossible to keep them out even before frogs as insecticide didnt work all that well anyway. Now its worse because I provide a FF cafeteria... hahaha

I draw the line at spiders and centipedes. I can tolerate the rest, but not those....especially wolf spiders...ugh! A month ago, every day there would be an elaborate web in the top of my 12x12x18 imitator viv, going from the top, one side to the other, and down to several brom leaves. Every day I would wipe it out, every day it returned. I finally realized--it went down behind, and was huge UNDER the viv! We finally found the thing and got rid of it. Ugh. I was afraid it would get my imi baby! The dogs and cats are usually really helpful about killing the creey crawlys, or at least pointing them out to us! Friday I went to the local farm stand and bought a bunch of hedgeapples. Will keep you posted! (Please don't tell me hedgeapples are harmful to my DFs!!!!

I do recall, Scott. I can't even imagine how many are under your house. At least you don't have a freezing winter, which drives them indoors! I would imagine the temps you guys get are perfect for breeding. Anyways, we're getting along just fine now. I'm even taking the time to look at the different kinds of spiders I have now! lol Yes, when they get out of control the shop vac comes out. But, I don't mind seeing the odd cool one.

I have a feeling that they aren't ALL native to Canada. hock: :lol:

Essential to the frog room:

The ROOMBA or equivalent floor vacuum robot. So helpful for debris as well as escaped flies.

My frog room defies most of the advice on this page.  I don't really like hanging out in my basement lol.  I wish we had this site up when I was planning things out...

Yeah tough call going for the utilitarian frog room - usually a basement, or the cool aesthetic of a hobby room upstairs. Both are cool and have their advantages.

The carpet is tough though. It will hold odors big time.

I like the room though, especially the couch. Nothing beats sitting and staring into the vivs. Meditation.

My frog room is a repurposed dining room. I mean after all who uses a dining room nowadays anyway? Instead it is my Frog Room/Office/Kitchen table. I wouldn't mind having a dedicated frog room but I wouldn't want to even think about what I spend filling a whole room!
