My buddy Demonic suggested I post my build on this site. Im sure plenty of you have seen it on dendroboards, but hopefully some unfamiliar eyes see it. Enjoy!....And "like" if you like it! Big Grin

Hopefully the next set of pics answer more possible questions.

The lianas are coated in a mixture containing 2 parts black GE SCS 1200 silicone (aquarium grade), 1 part Toluene (evaporates completely, and does not change the composition of the silicone. It is safe, just be sure to apply it in a ventillated area), and 1/2 - 1 part dried peat moss. The silicone is fully mixed with toluene prior to adding the peat moss. Once fully coated, the lianas are then coated with more dried peat moss. This is the exact same way I covered the background tree structure roots.

Also not mentioned in the videos, is the LED moonlight system attached inside the aquarium's center brace channel. The wires are run around the top perimeter of the tank, and completely siliconed in, only leaving the final connections visible for light replacement. They were bought from Ikea and have the full spectrum of colours available at the turn of a dial.

Thanks so much for posting this over here, tanks going to be freaking epic! I almost hate to see plants in there hiding all your hard work. Part of the reason I stopped spending so much time on my backgrounds.

last build that I did was a mix of GS, ecoweb and corkbark. I didn't post it on the other board though, I am getting super lazy with my builds post20564.html?hilit=d3monic#p20564

So, whats the planned inhabitants?

Ohh yea, super nice light fixture btw that had to be insainly expensive....I hope it was a left over from one of your reef tanks or something.

Yeah the fixture is a German made beast. Giesemann Infinity. It sells for about 1700$ new I think. I bought mine for 500$ from a local frogger who is moving back to Germany. It was either buy the giesemann from my buddy, or buy a fixture at the aquarium store for 400$, 300W less power, and a hideous design....No brainer.

As for inhabitants, most probably san cristobals or bastis...Possibly benedictas to really show off Smile

I didnt get a pm. Did you send it to me on this site? I cant even remember about what plants you are refering to haha

Thanks man. Im still dendroboard to the core, but it cant hurt to get my build/name out there more. Id like to start building custom tanks for rich blooded people using my peninsula as a sort of "look what I can do" example of my work haha.

Benedicta's hide ALL day long. They are visible in the early morning, but during the day it's a viv show not a frog show. Reticulata though... Those guys are out and about all day long.

Grimm,

Nize first tank ! The middle channel would be great to direct a water feature into, a waterfall or drip feature of some kind. I also envision a dream-like 25 or so HIGH-end broms all over that wood. They would so, suck up all that expensive German lighting.

since you set your bar so high, I would really trick it out so it would undoubtedly be the tats. You got the lunar lights. I would also have an ultrasonic hooked up and some dusk / dawn lighting - everything on multiple timers too. They make that cool module that interfaces with your PC for all kinds of crazy data too - monitor it from work with a smartphone too !

Invest in a quality step stool too, so you can reach your hand all the way into the bottom of the tank - which you will, when the glass gets booger-ed up by frog tracks, frog poop (especially with thumbnails, imis, Rana genus if you go that route, they all love to poop on glass). Ultrasonic mist is a real crowd pleaser and never fails to wow friends and family BUT it does cause algae to grow on glass, so again...be prepared with a step stool. A fresh razor blade and the stool will be your best friends after 6-10 months when that tank is done.

I personally would go with a VERY visible species and one where you can have a small group or colony - to fully enjoy the biggness of that monster tank. Like Kris said....I would not go with Benedicta. They hide too much. I personally, would go with pumilio. They are bold, don't poop on glass sides near as much as thumbnails and can exist in a small group of say, 4 ,for that size viv. Only one male though, so 1.3 would be a good ratio for you.

More later.....

That Viv is gonna rock, my friend !

Haha this isnt my first rodeo Philsuma. I tried about 4-5 different backgrounds methods and practiced making root structure backgrounds before this tank. I want it perfect, and it will be once I'm done Big Grin

And your predictions are exactly what im doing bud. The center channel will be a shallow water feature. ADA aquasoil sloping up onto the false bottoms. There are 2 water outputs that will be used as an intermittent drip feature. Tons of bright broms mounted high shadowing all my wicked orchids, and everything else covered in mosses.

As for the glass, I made myself a little invention to take care of all the crud that accumulates on it. I tried selling the idea to a few companies but no takers yet. Mag-Float signed a confidentiality agreement with me though so who knows. And im pretty tall, so I can reach in no problem Tongue

large Mag float and cut a swiffer pad in half. Thats what I do on the 75gal. Just got to be super carefull though. weight could easily kill a frog if it fell on it. I also toyed with the idea of making a squegee on the end of one for wiping the glass.

Ok here is where I'm at. I'll let it air out tonight, and start the wet test run tomorrow night. If it passes, I'll start adding my moss mix everywhere and turn the misting system on overdrive.
