Removing Tads from film can
#1
So my female Green Imitator likes white film cans and has picked just one out of 10 to use! She now has 3 sets of eggs in this can and there are three eggs in each clutch. I over looked the first clutch and now those 3 are tadpoles. I wanted to pull these tads but don't want to ruin the other eggs. Any suggestions on how to go about this? I thought about very carefully moving the whole can to my tad tank. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

You can cut the top off the film can so you get at the eggs and tads better. Film cans cut easy with big kitchen shears / scissors.

Those 7-11 red slurpee straws with the little flat scoop at the end is great for gingerly removing eggs and tads.

Forgot all about the slurpee straw! Thanks Phil! Any worries on tilting the new eggs? Ive removed tads before but not with new eggs in the same can.

Vertical with the open end pointing down. I'm gonna try and get pics when the lights come back on in the morning.

Here is the film can. One on the left. You can see one clutch through the can. this is the newest clutch. There are three tads and three more half way to tadpole stage on the other side and one single egg near the lip closest to the glass. They are all developing and I can pull them all if need be but if I tilt the can to get the tads now will it hurt the newer eggs?

If you really want em out and are going to put em in a petri dish ect.....you're going to have to snip those cans so you can properly and carefully get in there....

Yeah I thought so. I really just wanted the tadpoles before the male comes to get them. I didnt want to have to move the eggs but will if need be.

you could try to coax the tads into a slurpee spoon with someone helping you and holding the can while you perform surgery...lol....and using a headlamp for lighting so you can see what you are doing.

that said...I'd probably cut the can. Be careful, whatever option you choose.
