Hi Folks
I have 2 el dorado pumilio and I have been seeing eggs on and off for about 2 months. I don't hear any calling ever from this tank. (age: ~9 or 10months old)
Question...
Will El Dorado's typically lay eggs without a male?
Thanks,
Tony

Not to my knowledge. How may eggs in the clutches and where exactly are they being deposited ?
Can you post some pics of the viv and the frogs ?
..and the eggs.

I have seen eggs on a brom, on leaves (non brom) and in a film can.
1 to 3 eggs, I think 3 was the largest group I have seen.
I will try to get Pics of viv and frogs, frogs may be difficult they hide well in the 29G.

I am thinking after 3-4 days you should start to see some development if they are fertile. I have some pics w time stamps on my Cristobal thread.

hmmm...very odd looking. I'm not exactly sure that's an egg. Iv'e never seen pumilio lay just one or even two before. Usually eldorados lay large clutches - over 5.
Good looking frogs though !

hmmm......interesting theory Tony.....
Those eggs do look a little odd. What kind of calling are you having in the surrounding vivs ? Other pumilio ?
One possible observation I have - the eggs / leaf / viv looks dry. Are you sure you have high enough humidity ?

Calling from surrounding Vivs: RETF, Leucs, and Vittatus
There is a mister in that tank that comes on for 20seconds - 4 times a day
Current Humidity: 90%
The eggs in both pictures were still in a mass of gel, though they are bad now they are still very moist

I highly doubt female pumilio would lay eggs due to calling from different frog species.
Male pumilio call loudly and often...even if you only occasionally watch the viv, you should be able to catch breeding and hear calling.
I have heard females frogs can die - eggbound, without a male.

2 other things...
Those 2 clutches were the first eggs ever found ? If they are "first eggs" or heck , even second clutch....they may be bad due to the parents "not gettin' it right" yet. Very common.
and lastly....may be a vitamin / nutirent problem. What supplements are you using ? Are you sure they are fresh and how often are you using them ?

nah, been seeing eggs for about 4 months or so i guess, never this many. That is why I started this thread. 4 eggs may have been the biggest grouping i have found. Maybe it is too soon for them but I have not had calling from them. Their Viv is about 3 feet from my PC
first 6 months they were on a repti cal Calcium and Vit rotation ...alt dusting every day
I just replaced the product with Repashy Calcium Plus and Repashy SuperVite ...alt dusting every day

Couldnt say morning noon and night, its been set up for some time so i dont watch it that close.
This tank has the light off most of the time and all my tanks run around 75-77 so this one might be a tad lower

if you are getting a severe drop in temps at night....like going from 77-80F during the day to @ 60F at night....that will cause eggs to "not develop".

nope, house never gets that cold, the frogs are in the den just off the living room and the area has a large arch opening between the 2 rooms temp never drops below 70 in the house.

This may be a little different, but I was getting a bunch of clutches that looked like that from my anthonyi's. Once I started dusting with Repashy Vit A I quit getting clutches that looked like that. May be worth a try...I have way more than I need, I would be more than willing to share.
