Hey
My Intermedius threw some more eggs. Hoping they take this time. She laid in the same white film can, only the can is tipped back and over the days built up water. I noticed tonight there are 2 eggs in the water. I have heard vents can lay in water, but will imi's do that and have the fertilization take? Its not that deep or anything, maybe a table spoon of water.
I plan to leave them to let the parents get some skills established.

Good news - the 2 eggs are now showing development. I will never know if they laid near the outer edge of the film can then the eggs were pushed into the water by the frogs, or if they managed to pull this off in slight submersion of water. Honestly, I am surprised they laid in this particular film can at all. This one was intended as a deposit site. I have black film cans tilted upside down as most recommend. I do see them enter the upside down cans, but they never lay eggs in them.

Here is a pic of the tad being raised by the parents. This tad happens to be in the center of the Brom close to the top of the viv. I cleaned the glass and was able to snap this pic. Very cool to watch this guy "swim" around. I will try to get a pic of mom dropping an egg. I saw it last night but had not cleaned the glass so could not see very clear.

Ohhhh how cool now this is motivational!
So my ignorant understanding of PDF, they lay eggs than leave? but my non ignorant ( the subconscious) tells me that the frogs have to care for their babies from comments i had seen/read?
is there a post to answer my question? (is the parental behavior what i have seen on pictures a parent carrying a tad or a few on their backs?)

Hey Juan,
All will transport the tads to water once they hatch...for some that is the end of parental care, but some (Oophaga and some Ranitomeya) feed unfertilized eggs to their tads.

Sure bud, that is a "Zoe" - believe it or not I found it at the HomeDepot (our big chain store). Since its a brom its easier to clean, had no issues or concerns since. In fact have already gained 3 pups from the 2 orig plants I bought.

Here is a pic of the tad I am raising (from a few days ago). He has more pattern now, but is also less willing to let me take his picture : )
The tad being reared by the parents seems to be maturing faster and already has clear pattern and front legs. Trying to get a pic, but not easy since he is in a brom axial.

Ok guys and gals
updated pics - although they are a week old
The tad I raised should come OOTW tomorrow - he has nice legs etc... He is about 2 weeks behind the parent raised, but is also 30% larger. I fed him expensive discus food and spririlua flakes.
As we speak I am observing my parent raised froglet hunting fauna on the background of the viv. He came out looking more like a banded imi (w his Zorro looking mask - black is more solid after a few days OOTW) than std intermedius.

Thx Field - yeah I have really enjoyed watching the progress btw both methods of rearing. I am sure the temp also had minor impact. I am guessing the viv temp was 1-3 degrees higher on avg than the empty 10gal w only glass lid and no light fixture.
