Hi everyone! My name is Fernando and I'm from Texas!
I recently started researching "green anoles" due to my fascination with lizards, and expected to have one in my room someday, when I came across a dart frog website, and the rest is history as they say. LOL :lol:
I've been reading up on dart frogs and I am really intrigued by them! So vivid, colorful, beautiful!
I want to set up a terrarium and maybe keep a few D. auratus. So, I came here to gather as much information as possible from the marvelous community this forum provides. I'm glad this place has a chat box too, I'm a chat junkie! LOL
So, I guess I should say some stuff about me.... :oops:
I currently grow various carnivorous plants and love aquariums. I have a 6 x 4 greenhouse and two aquariums, a 10 gallon, and a 45 tub. If you are interested here are some pictures:

I've been reading up a bit on frogs and most articles state D. auratus isn't a really bold frog, so I'd like to get something else. In your opinion, which frog is better? D. leucomelas, or D. tinctorious "Azureus"? I really like both, but I know I can't keep both! Which one is more outstanding, active?
I really like D. leucomelas because of their friendliness towards other frogs of their species, and their call is just amazing, and the "black and yellow" would surely please some house guests. LOL
I really like D. tinctorius "Azureus" mostly because of their looks, the blue is just fantastic, but their call sounds like a pesky doorbell.
What do you all think?

They are all good choices. A lot depends on the size of the enclosure, mainly.

Also....your decision should be based on meeting some local Texas froggers who can give you a great deal and provide customer support - VERY helpful.

I plan on trying to keep them in a 20g, not sure if I should get a low or high though. What do you think?
I wouldn't mind talking to local frog keepers, except the closest to me are 250 miles away. LOL The only dart keepers here are the zoo and I doubt they'd like to talk to a puny teenager.

To answered your question, a 20 long or 20 high are both great choices for a pair of frogs. A 20L will have more floor space for Dendrobates, but you will run into height issues with certain plants.

I have frogs in both sizes, so some careful planning / planting will bring you success to which ever you choose.

I will probably see what would fit the frogs better, I can always suffice with low growing plants. Dendrobates are ground dwellers, correct? Not good at climbing?

Wow...no wonder all the Texas froggers here are not chiming in. You may as well be in Guatemala !

What's your air conditioning situation like in your house. Temps over 80F are dangerous for darts.

We like to use 75f in the lower floor, and the upper floor soars to the upper 80s in the day. :lol:
