Hello everyone, I'm Jon. I'm from the Chicago suburbs and I've been keeping darts about a year and a half. I've kept all kinds of other herps and Cichlids before. But I've found my passion with Dart Frogs. I keep bigger frogs, tincs, auratus, Phyllobates sp. I haven't been on this forum as much as I should be. Some of you may know me from another forum. I look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. I hope I can learn something while teaching someone.

Very odd winter this year for DFW... never got below freezing... I have also seen more bees and birds than ever before.

It's been very odd here too. We've had virtually zero snow, and none of the fierce cold.

ok how's this for weird same here in Blighty,although its normally pretty mild here compared with what you guys could see,last year was the coldest for a silly long time this almost the opposite,Jon thanks for the words,a simple question and forgive my ignorance if I'm not aware of something ,but until today i genuinely thought your name was Rusty,which somehow has always stuck me as the coolest name .....where did this come from.
Finally the bit about the water,which Ed knocked into me a while back(we only have 3 newts here one the seriously rare one lives very close so i asked),thats so utterly cool keep that there for a while mate,it is so damn obvious once one thinks and has had it laid out,but some just need that nudge to realise,many will see that because of you,for that thanks go back

Stu, The name Rusty Shackleford comes from an American animated TV show called King of the Hill. In the show there is a character Dale Gribble who is kind of a weird government conspiracy theory guy. His alias is Rusty Shackleford. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dale_Gribble
That will tell you way more than you ever wanted to know about him, it's more than I ever wanted to know too.
Thanks Stu, I will keep that line on my signature for a long time. After I learned how easy it was to disinfect waste water from Ed, I do it every time. It's very simple, only takes a few minutes and it actually can make a difference. There is no reason why every hobbyist should not be doing this don't you think?

Ha i don't watch enough TV,i think it might just be here Jon  , i'm trying to learn this froggy stuff and learn slow,so read frogs play frogs read frogs play frogs, so tv doesn't get a chance really 8) .but thankyou for the insight,i'm still pretty funny i think that i thought it was your name, :lol: .
Ok serious head on Jon i think its incredibly important that we all nail any potential nasty bugs in our waste water as you say just so simple, its what i think you guys call a no brainer. I don't think for one minute that our little hobby is hugely responsible for the spread of deseases,not with the huge numbers of phibs traded for food for example,but we do have the potential to spread say chytrid and equally we do have the power with a bit of bleech and double bagging to be damn well sure we don't spread anything aswell,which also means some government body doesn't mix us with them and way more important to me and as amphibian lovers that all of us are,to the rest of us that we do no damage to our phib friends living around us.
Much in our wonderful hobby is open to debate,we don't all need to agree on everything,this one simple thing is what we should all agree on,keep you phib waste clean and safely away from our beloved natives,water gets bleeched,solids get double bagged,and hopefully none of us ever has a reason to do this other than because it is so damn easy.
We have a big old jar with bleech in that caters for say a dead tadpole infertile eggs,and sadly a couple of froglets that didn't make it,we wait till this turns clear and then its safe.
Jon an aopology for slightly derailing your welcome thread,you understand my motive,more people will see this conversation more will realise how simple this all is and take this on board,

Stu. no apologies necessary. You bring up a great point. Namely I forgot to add to double bag solid wastes. I'm going to have to change my signature to include that. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone would do this and we could stand together as a whole entity and say we are doing our part? I'm sure you're right and the chances of some of our waste spreading Chytrid or something else is small. But still there is a chance and if two simple, easy things can bring that chance down to zero, then I'm all for it.

Jon thanks for that Jon,its definitely worth talking about this stuff,as the above double bagging illustrates,i'm totally with you it would be wonderful for all of us to be on this 8) .
