Very exciting, this evening I found the first egg I've seen! She laid in a brom. While I know it isn't likely to be fertile, it is so cool!

thanks everyone, yes, I was hopping around and squealing to the family that there was an egg. LOL even my hubby, who is only mildly interested in the frogs had to come over and look I was so excited.

I can't wait Jon! And I might not have to. On top of finding a clutch of 3 eggs in my second viv this afternoon (dad is sticking very close to them) also on a brom leaf. I think the first egg is showing signs of development! Might be my imagination but I think I see a head and tail started.... what do you all think?
Day 1 (when I found it yesterday)
Day 2 (this afternoon)
And with a little different lighting (today)

Lisa it's hard to tell from the first two pics, but the third one I see some development. See the ridge forming on the egg? That will eventually be the spine/backbone of the tad. Congratulations, looks good to me!!

Thanks Jon, I thought so, based on the great pics from dreamcatcher98's thread here: http://dartden.com/breeding-eggs-tadpole...t=imitator
Very cool!
The first pic I had just put in for reference what it was like on the day I found it, compared to the next two pics on the next day where there was "shape" showing. Amazing, just 1 day later the change is visible!

Missed Day 5, I was gone all day, but this morning (day 6) when I went to take the daily picture, the 'egg' wiggled wildly so cool! I am amazed how much change occurs from day to day!
This same pair also laid a clutch of 2 this morning on the glass, I watched the male apparently fertilizing them.

Very cool Lisa!! Now is the perfect time to go get a nice magnifying glass. Especially since you have a clutch of eggs on the glass and within easy viewing range. I think I got mine at a craft store. It's just a little hand held job with a built in LED light. It comes in handy for so many things around the frog room.
Pretty soon you should start to see the external gills on the tads, they look like little red threads coming out of the tads head. Sometimes you can get a good view of their eyes or internal organs, depending on the size of the tad.
Have fun!!

Thanks for the idea Jon, I'll have to look around! My camera has a macro setting, so I'm very excited that these eggs are on the glass where it is easy to photograph.
Definitely having fun!

Cheers! the minute i posted i saw your imi posts everywhere Lisa, sorry mate i should have known ! I hear ya on the wriggling it is so cool.I was lucky to see frogs and newts develope as a child i kept them ,Shaz has never seen this ,so the whole thing has been reliving all this for me and seeing the wonder on her face,as we have gone through each step, and different species now. Lisa the thing that blew me away was seeing the colour develope, with our tinc clade its really quite late, pretty much the last week as the front legs start to show and pop.We haven't bred any thumbs yet so your wicked pics will show us. One day our summersi will stop jerking my chain and get it together (she was courting him again this morning  ) and we'll get to see this,in the little frogs.I think you'll see this colouring up earlier though than the last week or two.Its just another of those amazing things about this dart frogs, they go from this drab brown tadpole to....... WOW

Nah, no worries Stu. We would raise eggs to frogs then release them as kids too, but I was quite young and didn't remember all the details. I guess the difference of being on 'dry' land as opposed to in the water is a big point as well.
I hope that I will be able to see in whatever brom or film can he chooses to deposit the tad when it is time! To see the continuing development! The color will be an awesome thing!
Ah, when the summersi do get it together you'll appreciate it all the more!

Looking back, I mislabeled the first two pictures, they are day 2 & 3 not 1 & 2.
This is today's pic, Day 6.
