Dave the Marmoset
#1
Per request, here is a thread about Dave the Marmoset, whom serves as frog room security in my basement.
He is a hybrid Common/Pensulata mix. I am driving to florida in 6 weeks to buy a female baby Pensulata from a breeder.
He likes to sit on top of his cage and bask and make loud noises that sound like a tea kettle Smile He eats a canned marmoset diet, bananas, oranges, pasta, and veggies. His favorite treats include marshmellows and mealworms. He wasnt trained to be a pet and is two years old, therefor it is too late for diaper and leash training; but he is still friendly and will let you pet him and take food from your hand. He is about the size of a small squirrel.

Very cool. Yep, there are a lot of breeders in FL (monkey heaven).

Those eyes...almost human...

Has he learned to open the tanks yet? Watch out, they are sneaky.

This is Hermie, my frog "watch bird", he tries to eat everything that moves.

Before someone asks, he is a non-releasable rehab used for educational purposes.

Both gorgeous animals! Years back when I was in Flordia, I came across pygmy marmosets for $500 a pair. I had seen them at the Philadelphia Zoo and they were the cutest things and my girlfriend at the time wanted some. Well, I went by the pet shop 2 days later to discuss buying them and care with the owner and it was shut down. Apparently another victim of the illegal pet trade that goes on down there. Glad I didn't do an impulse by at the time like I was tempted to do.

Usually pygmy marmosets for for 7000 a piece and are super rare primates so that sounds shady for 500 a pair...

Love the owl!! Im usually not a fan of birds but thats awesome. He doesnt wander away form his cage so no worries yet about him getting into frog cages lol However i had a large preying mantis escape and theres no doubt in my mind Dave caught him lol

Any suggestion for a name of Daves gf??

$7000 each! Watch out, I wouldn't pay over $3k, they usually got for $2500.00, less for adults. I can hook you up with a few marmoset breeders if you need them.

I am aware of many marmoset breeders in Florida and Texas. Maybe the word "pygmy" is throwing you off. My Marmoset is not a pygmy. He is a common/pensulata. they run between 1800-2500. Pygmy Marmoset are very hard to breed and come by because of their size. If you know of a breeder with true pygmy marmosets for that price please PM me, otherwise I think you may be confused. Pygmys only get 4 inches tall. Mine is like 7 inches tall.

Probably the reason the store was shut down when I went back. I know there's a huge problem with illegal pet trades down in FL. Glad someone got caught but I seriously hope the animals were adopted out properly.
