How much leaf litter does everyone put down ?

I personally like to put down a good 3 inch layer to start. The frogs will eventually trample it down and it will start to decompse, then I go back and add some more.

You want a couple layers....that way, the layers provide hides, microfauna refuge and even humidity / microclimes.

1-2 inches of maple, oak, etc...as a base layer, then 1-2 inches of live oak or mag (I like a mix of both). The soft, quickly-decomposing leaves of the base layer help encourage microfauna, the more durable leaves of the top layer serve as hiding places.

I put a minimum of 2 inches in all my vivs, but I build up to 4-6 inches over time in my pumilio vivs for the sake of the froglets. I am also careful not to let the water level get above the base of the leaf litter.
