pics of new viv and question
#1
Hi guys! Just wanted to post some pics of my newly constructed vivarium... I've not done this before so if my BBCode doesn't work, forgive me!

This is a 55 gallon planted vivarium with a small water feature and ultrasonic fog piped in. No PDFs yet - I plan to buy them at Atlanta Botanical Gardens during Frog Days! Haven't quite decided yet which PDFs I'm going to attempt to buy.... Oh, and there's a question after all my pics!

this is a shot of the entire tank:

Looking down the length of the tank at an angle:

Large piece of driftwood, orchid, brom, ferns, and small palm:

Water feature with driftwood "root" and air plants:

The tank filling with fog:

OK.. now for my question: I've monitored my viv's temp and humidity for a coupld of weeks now and it seems to be sometimes getting down to 69.5 degrees at night. I have a temperature and humidty monitor that keeps track of the lowest and highest numbers. In two weeks it hasn't gone below 69.5. Do you guys think I need to invest in any type of heater? During the day it stays at a pretty regular 76. Also, the humidity seems high to me (mostly staying between 95% and 97%). I was thinking of purchasing a small computer fan to circulate some air. Can your humidty be TOO high?

Thanks guys!

Looking really good congratulations on a well constructed first Viv. If the humidity is too high I would say reduce the amount of fogging/misting and add a vent. Overall tho you did a great job have fun with the frogs.

No, you don't need a heater.

Thanks! It's certainly not where it needs to be in terms of landscaping.. I plan on adding more epyphitic (sp?) plants to almost completely cover the back wall... And moss on the ground floor...

Thats beautiful. is that the foam/silicone/coco dust back panel method? how are your plants planted too. I had the same type of fern in my first viv and a few other plants and they all got root rot and moldy leaves. Do you use some type of false bottom to keep your water from saturating the substrate?

Yes, I do use a false bottom and yes it's the foam background method...

And I HOPE I can get by without my roots rotting! It may still happen... Who knows? It's been up for about three weeks now, though, and things look fine so far... Thanks fo ryour questions....
