Hello All
#1
Thought I'd go ahead and make a profile and say hello after stalking this site for the past few days. My name is Kim and I currently reside in Raleigh, NC. I'm a graduate student pursuing a degree in science education with a B.S. in Zoology. I horseback ride, own two ferrets, and keep both fresh and saltwater fish tanks. I had been tossing the idea around of doing a paludarium for a while now and am about to move into an apartment with more room. I was researching them and considering getting some sort of animal to live in the land section when I came across someone mentioning dart frogs. I had never even known that these gorgeous creatures were kept by home hobbyist and was intrigued. I did some research and long story short, the paludarium idea has been ditched for a tank just for dart frogs. I have become fascinated with the little critters and convinced my life will not be complete without taking care of a few of them lol. Right now I'm in the research stage, I plan to get a medium sized exo terra enclosure and keep a pair of leucs for my first frogs. I've dealt with ffs before and find them easy to breed and maintain so their food source isn't a worry for me. The plants are going to be new but it doesn't seem so difficult. I'd still like to have a bit of standing water in the enclosure for tads if they decide to breed for me so i'll probably employ a false bottom of some sort with a small corner exposed to the water. How I'm going to make sure it's shallow so the little things won't drown is still up in the air. If that works out well I've got my eyes on a gigantic 90gallon hexagon tank with stand and canopy that is currently for sale in my area. I've convinced it was meant for dart frogs, specifically my future dart frogs. If my small one works out for me I intend to get a group of leucs to live a luxurious life in the big tank and use the then empty small tank for a pair of frogs that do not play well in groups. So that's currently where I am at right now. I'm super excited to start doing all the research and planning for this new project. This will be my first experience with the herps and I'm hoping it will be a positive one. You guys have a great site full of information. Not sure how often I'll post since most of the info I am after already exists on here. Thanks for reading and hope to see ya'll around.

Welcome! Leucs are a great choice for a first dart, you will be very happy with them. Sounds like you are off to a good start...may as well go ahead and get the big tank, you will be wanting more right after you get your first frogs. Don't hesitate to ask questions, there are plenty of knowledgeable people on here who are always willing to help (especially when its clear that lots of research is being done). There are a couple of froggers out your way, meeting up with a local is an awesome way to get into the hobby (and get free plants, feeder bugs, etc...Wink)

Thanks for the warm welcome. Yeah I'm pretty excited about the leucs. I really like the way their call sounds and hopefully mine will be vocal. I can't wait to get started on the build!
