Future Frog Days - suggestion...
#1
I have attended and have fully enjoyed last year’s and this year’s Frog Day. I would like to offer a suggestion for future Frog Days.

One of my other hobbies is building resin figure models. Next week is that hobby’s equivalent of Frog Day; “Wonderfest” in Louisville. It has become a custom in that hobby for “room hopping” to occur the day or two before the event. Hobbyists bring stuff they want to sell or trade and leave their doors open for other hobbyists to stop by. Many of these hobbyists offer various kinds of hospitality treats---beer, munchies etc. etc. I have found that time to be as valuable as the main event itself. It provides a great opportunity to really meet other hobbyists.

The only negative consequence I can possibly see to this is that those vendors who do pay and procure tables at Frog Day will be concerned that their sales might be adversely impacted from room hopping sales. In the model hobby, no vendors ever raise such concerns---perhaps it might have been an initial concern, but years of room hopping has apparently caused no noticeable decline in event sales. It has simply become a much anticipated custom in that hobby.

If this suggestion meets with some favor in this hobby, perhaps the powers that be might consider assessing a room hosting fee---less than a floor fee, but a fee nonetheless to support the hobby.

Just wanted to toss this out there for discussion purposes.

Won't work Ed. The Sanctity of protecting the Vendors who journey long distances and pay big $$ to sell , needs to be protected. There undoubtably WAS some hotel room sales and trades....we can never totally do away with those, but I don't think we should endorse room traffic.

Heck, that lounge / bar in the lobby was really nice. IAD had a great hotel bar / restaurant too. That's the place to meet and greet IMO.

At the annual Frog Day auction...make VERY sure to announce the donation / origin of the auction items - especially all livestock.
