My frog tanks are in my computer room at the house. Last night I was working late at home on some legal matters. It was about 1:30 a.m. when I got up to call it a night. As I passed by my Eldorado tank, I noticed one of the frogs was awkwardly clinging sideways on the bottom of some cork bark. I shined my LED flashlight at him and he didn’t even move, so I reached into the tank and attempted to pull him out to examine him. Instead of grabbing him on the first try, I had inadvertently caused him to fall over on his side. I was certain he was dead.
Pulled him out of the tank and he was breathing and eyes open and all, but seemed in some kind of catatonic state. No matter what position I set him in, he remained in that position (even on his back). I misted him lightly and he began to “come around.” Put him back in the tank and he just sat on a rock, but responded then to the LED light and hopped away. This morning he seemed fine. Just puzzled as to what happened here and hoping he is not dying.

That can't be good....something 'untoward' is occurring Ed. A reassessment of the tank and everything should be undertaken asap.

Just a thought.....possibly caught him during the last stages of a seizure which is often brought about my improper supplementation???

I think he is dying. Don't know what to do. I separated him from the others; he is the smallest of them. Don't know if it is stress. All other frogs seem to be fine. Ed

Ed, I would not mist him any more, it can be a shock to the system.

Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.
If tone is more important to you than content, you are at the wrong place.

Ed I will be curious to hear what Dr. Frye says, he looks pretty bad.
At this point I would capture the other frogs put in QT and test, IMO if one has it a good chance the others do.
If you can get some formalin on hand in case this one does not make it I would do a histo/necropsy Dr.Oz gave some good info on who does those in the Rana thread. Just some thoughts.

Great videos Ed. VERY helpful. I'm far from being a Vet or even seeing a ton of different sick frogs, but if I had to guess....I'd say you have a nutritional issue or imbalance and not a disease. The back legs immobility is key here. Almost like the state we see them in when over-stressed. That semi seizure type stretching. Could be brought upon by the stress of introduction into a vivarium with 3 existing adult pumilio.
I would place the frog on the bottom of the tank and make sure it has pothos or mag leaves around it or even on top of it. Sitting on that piece of wood exposed like that is a continuing stressor.

Frog still alive. Put a small piece of cardboard in there with springs and he is taking them. Oz is thinking a calcium deficiency. Ed

Oz just sent me this email after reviewing the videos: "The first video where his legs are outstretched looks like a calcium-related thing to me - and it is at the "hit the wall"-age - where CB pumilio seem to have the most problems.
Make sure you are supplementing it well - both with calcium and Vitamin A. I have had CB frogs show this behavior once and be fine. But - the fact that it was doing it without you touching or stressing it isn't the best sign. Many of those frogs continue to decline."

I would change whatever suppliments you are using to new, fresh ones. I like a rotation of 3-4 different supps to include 2 different calcs as well.Rotation is key, IMO and 'covers all bases' better than just one supp.

Ed...I would not 'handle' it anymore...human contact and handling is increasing it's stress 100 times and whatever is wrong with it - making it more debilitated.
....looks bad....hope you get at least more clues as to what we are dealing with so that we can pass on the info in case of future incidents.

HE'S HOPPING! HE'S HOPPING AGAIN! I'm not saying he's 100%, but big improvement. All I've done is discarded old supps and replaced with new. Realize that could not possibly make the difference in one feeding, but he is also segregated from the other two frogs (which I believe are female).
I've been feeding him dusted springs, dusted isos (dwarf white) and dusted FFs. No flies in tank and he looks like he has been eating. If he makes it, I'm going to name him "Lazareth!" Keeping my fingers crossed. . .

Never thought the little guy would look like this again! I'd say he up to 80% at this point and doing well. He's back in the tank with others and is having absolutely no problems hopping around and getting into broms.
I also replaced the soil with ABG, as the lower level had a mild plant fertilizer in it.
