It would probably depend on the exact variety. They will root readily, but you might have to pin them to the background to get them to do that. Use a 3" piece of clothes hanger wire, bent into a wide U. Pin the vine to the mat at a leaf junction. Wait. Wait some more. Eventually you will be able to pull the pin off.

They might root without that, but in my experience they are perfectly happy to just vine along and not put down new roots if there is any movement whatsoever where the new roots might be growing. Hence the pins...
