Hurricane Preparation?
#1
A post in another thread along with the uncertainty of Ernesto's track last week got me thinking what veteran coastal froggers do to prepare for hurricanes. The heat coupled with power losses and possible floods seem like a frog disaster waiting to happen.

I would seriously have a 'frog underground railroad' or a series of planned moves where someone takes the frogs or you drive them to another person and that persons drives the further away. I'm going to plan for it in FL.

I have a friend who lives in Gulf Shores, AL who is into tree frogs and day geckos. He just got into darts as well. What he does is the day before he rides out a storm or evacuates, captures all the animals and puts them in large coolers with cool packs and phase 22. He places each animal separately in a deli cup. He then keeps those coolers with him in the room he is bunkering down in or takes them with him in the car.

He also has set aside $1000 in the bank to cover the cost of replacing the tanks in case he losses everything and has two generators to use to keep his animals cool if he losses power. When he lived out in the mid west he would move all of his frogs and geckos to the storm shelter underground during tornado season.

It looks like these plans are about to get put to the test. Best of luck to all those in the storm's path.
