Local sources for larger Exo vivs?
#1
Seems like the local Petsmarts only stock a limited set of Exo-terra vivariums, and my local Petco's don't stock them at all. I'm looking for a 24x18x24, but I can't find anyone in Austin with them in stock. Has anyone picked one up locally? Looking for info on how you got them.

I found a couple sources online with them in stock, but I'm leery about shipping a big glass box around and getting it here undamaged. If anyone has shipped one I'd like to hear your experiences. Thanks!

Not sure if you have a local petshop other than the big named ones but my local shop will custom order them for us.
May be worth talking to one.

Thanks for the post. Yeah I was looking around last night but no luck. Figured I'd call the two nearby reptile shops and see if the can special order. I'm also going to call around to shops a bit further away. Who knows maybe I'll end up in Dallas Wink

I suspect I will be rolling the dice and ordering online.

I've had good luck buying large breakable items from Amazon over the last few years (including two exos, which arrived intact). On the one or two occasions I did have an item with shipping damage, they did what it took to make it right - sending a replacement and arranging pickup of the broken item, etc. If you can't find it locally at a comparable price, I'd consider ordering from them. The only potential downside is that when I've ordered Exos from them, they've came via truck freight, so you'd have to be able to arrange a time for delivery (they'll call you) when someone will be home.

It's probably more trouble and a more lengthy delay than it's worth, but there is the "Lone Star Reptile Expo" in Arlington every few months (I think the next is in mid-December). Plano Pets always exhibits there, and they do carry (or will order for you) larger Exos; you could probably arrange to pick one up from them there (or drive an hour further to Plano and pick one up from them without waiting for a show).

You Texans must have a wholesaler / big pet supply distributor located somewhere in the middle of the Triangle. Get someone to obtain a vendor / bizznazz account and away you go.

those nice big Exoterra's that retail for @ $118.00 ? You can get them wholesale for @ $88.00......fer instance.

Well I made the calls and the rounds to the shops in NW Austin today. The two local shops don't stock much but they can special order - one quoted a 3 week lead time and the other said they could check with their supplier and usually they can get something in the next day, but they only talk on Wednesdays :?

So I swung by Petsmart and they happened to have a sale on the 18x18x24 Exo's - $75. I picked one up. They have a skid :!: of 36x18x12...not quite right. I'm still looking around for a bigger solution but the pressure will be off short term. I suspect I will be calling Casper when I need to expand ... Smile
