Hello, everyone. I have been keeping several types of PDF's for a couple months now. I aquired several animals from one gentleman, out of desperation, as he had croaked a few and I believe he was tired of feeding them. Sad story, but gave me the opportunity to jump in.
I have had a great interest in frogs for a couple of years. I also have too many other interests, Tanganyikan cichlids, high end L# pleco's, panther chameleons, that prevented me from having the necessary time to give to dart's. Sold the last of my panther babies and aquired a quad of phyllo bicolor(which have given me over 25 eggs in the last couple of weeks) from one seller. The other seller mentioned above gave me an assortment, leuc's, auratus, azureus. Most were skinny, but are gradually putting on weight.
I had been surfing the DB for weeks before, absorbing as much info as I could. It was not until a week ago, that I found dartden.com and realized that there was more to frogkeeping than DB. I kept hearing about "Rich Frye" lines of frogs, but had no idea who he was until I found this forum. I almost took as gospel that everybody selling frogs on DB, must be reputable sellers...anyways...
I must say that in the last few days, I have learned an amazing amount of information. Besides the excellent info and input on husbandry, health, and viv design, the biggest thing I have learned is valuable information about who I could and who I could not trust in dealings. As my passion for these animals grow, I find myself wanting to keep thumbnails and pum's. Most of these animals come at a premium, which rightly so they should. I have plans to purchase in the coming months, and information I have gained here has helped me avoid near disasters I believe. I had been asking questions of one individual, whom I thought I knew a little about(but was wrong...very wrong), about the purchase of some pum's. I had met this person at a local herp show also. What I knew of him was just the tip of the iceberg.
I find it extremely refreshing that here on dartden, people are allowed to have discourse that does not follow extreme levels of decorum or overly PC. I am kind of a no-bullshit person. I want the straight answer and if somebody received the shaft or was deceived, I would like to hear about it. I have a suspicion, well, more than.., that DB is pretty heavily moderated and may have the tendency to protect reputations, even though they should not. Not trying to say, "this place is the shit, and the others suck" by any means. I have gained, and will continue to learn valuable info from both...BUT, I find that this place has offered me far more valuable insight versus just the scratch the surface type stuff. A bit of the Wild West, if you will...for those seeking expertise, advice, and honesty.
Just wanted to say I am glad to have found this forum and look forward to gaining knowledge from it.
Thanks, dartden.
