Hi Blue Pumilio, Thank you very much, but no I did not make it. I purchased a 36x24 3D background from a local shop (repxotica) and cut it in half so they can be used for two of my 18x18x24 builds. I love these 3D backgrounds, I use them on a lot of my tanks Big Grin

Quite nice ! You have 3 pumilio in there ? 1.2 ?

The more foilage you have the more you will actually see them - one of the funny things about our hobby, the more dense and jungle like, the more you may see them as they become bolder with the security of large green leaves.

I would research some 'shingling and vining plants' to add to your tank and take advantage of the height. Definitely add more plantings. And don't worry about 'overgrowth' or plants outgrowing or growin' wild. That's what shears are for !

Hi Philsuma, thank you for the kind words. Actually I have 5 in there LOL. I am keeping an eye out for male on male aggression but they are still quite young (Three are 7 months and two are 5 months old) I have not heard any calling yet. I do have another 18x18x24 setup and ready for when i have to separate them. To be honest, they are very bold. They are always out and about looking to pose for a picture LOL
Thank you for your help and advice on the plantings. I would like to add some ivy to the cypress stumps. I would also like to add something tall behind and to the side of the stump on the right, any help would be great? Big Grin
Thanks again, Mike

Hi BluePumilio, this is the 3D background I used in my 24x18x18 azureus tank. I have it setup with a waterfall, its just not running in this picture. I definitely need to add more foliage to this tank as well.

5 ?!? Wow...I HIGHLY recommend pairing down to 1.1 or 1.2 at most. That size enclosure is a little too small for more than 3 frogs - rule of thumb being 'roughly 1 adult frog per 10 'gallons".

Male on male pumilio stress and combat is very serious and stress often manifests itself as a silent, quick killer. Chances are, you won't see signs of stress until the bodies start showing up.

Did anyone, by chance, tell you it was ok to house 5 pumilio together ?

Yes, when I purchased them a couple of months ago. I was told I should be ok for a little while. To wait till I hear some calling before separating them. I also didnt really feel right about keeping five in that tank, so I built another. Its all planted hooked up to my mist king and ready to go. I am just not sure which ones to move out? I have been watching and waiting to see or hear something

I would place them - 2 in one given enclosure and 3 in another and make sure they are Heavily planted. Without numerous hides, retreats and barriers, chances are good that they are being stressed and inhibited from the get-go and you may have 1 or more submissive males that are cowed into not calling. Your enclosure is just too barren in it's present state.

Whoever gave you that initial pumilio advice did you and the frogs somewhat of a dangerous disservice.

I'll PM you my cell number - feel free to call me and I'll shoot you @ 20 mins of critical pumilio advice to save on the typing. Normally I'm a bigger fan of staying on the public forums for information, help and work-arounds, but time could be critical here and I'd like to help you fast.

PM sent.

Hi Phil, I just want to say Thank you so much. I really do appreciate you taking the time out of your day to help me out with this. Pumilio tank update..... I removed 2 of the pumilio and put them in another 18x18x24 exo tank. I also went to a local reptile shop today (repxotica) and picked up a couple more plants for this viv. I added another bromeliad up high on the cypress stump and a large bromeliad in front of it. I also added a large pheomele on the right and added some more leaf litter. I would like to add some low growing leafy plant under the pheomele that really doesn't need much light and could offer more hides (any ideas would be great?) Thank you again and it was very nice talking to you today, Mike

Hi Mike,
was wondering what quarantine procedure you use. Seems you may be a bit new to this (or at least pums) and I am hoping the move to a second viv was after a full quarantine procedure.
Very nice looking vivs which with a few additions will grow in in time.
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

Hi Rcteem and Jeremy, Thank you very much for your kind words Big Grin

Hi Rich, Thank you for the kind words Big Grin
I use a 18x18x24 exo terra as my QT tank. I use moist paper towels as the bottom and a pothos plant (no dirt only wet paper towels wrapped around roots) to provide hides, shelter and comfort. I put a single vine in for something they can sit/climb on. I really feel bad keeping them in such a bare tank, I figured the vine will offer some kind of enjoyment (maybe it just makes me feel better?) I also use a local animal hospital to check the stool for parasites, I bring a weeks worth after keeping it in my fridge LOL. They charge $60 a test Sad but they are the only vets by me that will work with frogs. I only keep them in QT for 30 days. I feel that they are under a lot of stress in such an environment. I try to cut it as short as possible but still be effective also making sure everybody is eating and showing no signs of any problems. I am sure that there are a lot of people that will QT much longer them me. I am not set on my ways, so if there is anything I am doing wrong I am up to suggestions. I am still very interested in purchasing some of your blue jeans come spring if you have them.
Thank you again guys, Mike Big Grin

Hey Mike,
I'm not sure exactly how accurate a fecal you will get with week old poop, but the vet/s you are dealing with should know.
If you feel the Q tank is too sparse you can just ad some more pothos and leaf litter and some film cans for hides.
As Phil mentioned , having more than one male in a tank at one time can cause issues. This includes male pums which are as young as a month and totally unsexable ...to us, not the adult male.
Just a few more rooting plants and some growing in and they'll look superb. Better than my ugly stuff. And, you really can't over-do it with leaf litter.
