29 gallon Viv for green and bronze auratus progression
#1
Well I am new to dart frogs and I have started my first ever Viv. I have have decided to go ahead and build a 29 gallon Viv. I have made a foam background and one sideground for this tank and I have put about $500 into it now so I hope I am doing it right. I will have a 2" false bottom with one 1" of standing water along with 4" of ABG ontop of that and leaf litter on that. I have five 3" pots set into the background and sideground and I have two ghost wood logs set into the background as well. I bought an ultimate mist king to run on this vivarium as well as two jungle dawn 13 watt led lights so my plants have plenty of light. I will have a small group of green and bronze auratus. I hope everyone likes this as I have put a total of 13 hours into this background hahaha and a lot if money into it hahaha.[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]

Welcome to DD, Keister. Looks like you've done your homework on building your first viv! I'm sure people will speak up with feedback for you!
Where are you located? If you add your location, you may get lucky and have other froggers nearby, in case your fruit flies crash, or to have meets and talk frog, etc.
Good luck, and keep the pix coming!

I am located in Hummelstown PA. Sorry I thought I had that in my profile already hahaha. Ya I have joined three forums for dart frogs and done a lot of research as well. I just really hope I am doing this right! It would be great to meet some local guys as I am really getting into this whole dart frog thing. I have always been attracted to dart frogs but never gotten into them. Since I recently had to sell all of my stingrays so I have had a lot of extra money so I figured now would be a good time to get into them!

Hola from an ex central Pennsylvanian.

Nice background work, looks like you have a very nice first build in the making.

Looks great! You are going to have some happy frogs! They only advice I can think of is to double check the lot drainage. My initial drainage design on my foam ledge background still left pools in some spots. Nice work!

Thanks everyone! I hope my frogs are happy because happy healthy frogs makes for a happy me! I have the whole top of the background on an angle forwards to hopefully prevent pooling of water. Do you think I should use two or three sprayer heads in this? I was thinking of putting all three in. Here are some of the pics of some plants that I have so far for it![ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]

looks very nice ! Broms are going to root best on wood, so I would not put any of them in a pot.

Thanks I plan on it I just have them in a holding tank sitting in a put so they can stand upright but I am going to wire them onto the two pieces of ghost wood. I have a stag horn fern for kind of a center piece per say but are there any other really cool more center piece style plants for my background? I will have four free pots for plants in the background and I want to make this look as good as possible and I am still new to this whole thing so any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Well I finished the whole thing now and I have stayed up till midnight to do it! I still need a glass top and the mistking is not hooked up yet because I need to be able to get up for school in the morning but I think it looks alright for my first Viv? I just cant wait for it to grow in! What's everyone else think?[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND][ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]

It looks great! Very nice. Is the recommendation 1 frog per 10, or 1 per 20 gallons, Phil? I know auratus can do well in groups, so is 3 auratus OK for this tank? Does it matter if the auratus are 1.2 or 2.1?

It is one frog per ten gallons but I am hoping to away with four or five providing ample hiding spaces and the fact that they are group frogs. Does that sound ok to everyone else or should I just stick with three?

4 or 5 will do fine in there. My 5 green and bronze are in a 29 gallon and they are doing great.
