Snail and slug removal ?

Hey guys... Just added a fresh carpet of moss into my tank a couple of weeks ago and today I noticed several small slugs... I got them out, but I'm wondering if I've introduced a whole new problem into my tank? I've had the tank up and running about a month and a half to two months now (Planning on adding frogs on October 15th!). If these slugs are still around when I introduce my PDFs, is it a problem? Can they cause my frogs to get sick or anything? I'm trying to pick them out whenever I see them...

It's been my experince in the past that once slugs are around, it's VERY hard to get rid of them... Any ideas?

I haven't heard of slugs hurting frogs (doesn't mean it's not possible), but who wants their beautiful plants trashed by unwanted guests. Given that there are no frogs in the tank, you might put out small bowls of beer. I've never done this, but it's an old gardener's trick to get rid of snails and slugs. It seems that the slugs are drawn to the beer where they fall in and drown. Another trick to try might be:

Snails and slugs will eat frog eggs, I actually have a couple pictures of them doing it. Once the frogs are in the enclosure they are a bear to get rid of, so I'd try really hard to get rid of them sooner than later.

Thanks, Ed... Since I posted this, I've actually not seen ANY more slugs... I ended up removing about 8 or 9 from the tank and have seen none for about a week now... Hopefully they'll be gone for good...

Beer / alcohol, if contacted by the frog - will kill the frog.

Try less invasive methods first, before going right for nuclear weapons. I use ice cold / freezer fresh iceberg lettuce placed in the Viv late in the evening and checked at night. Slugs and most snails, even, cannot resist cool, fresh lettuce. You can do this for 3-5 days and repeat - removing all the slugs and snails that congregate on the lettuce each night. You'll be surprised on how much of a dent you'll make in the population just by doing this method by hand and it's safe, easy and cheap.

Lol, I just put lettuce in one of my infested tanks...noticed they where getting a bit thick again.

I'm still removing snails from my cauchero viv, but they don't decimate my plants so I'm ok with hand-plucking them out.

I've never resorted to a CO2 bomb / Dry Ice and I doubt I ever will.
