Frog Day 2005 (Atlanta)

Excuse the post if this has been covered somewhere else! I searched the board and couldn't find anything...

I'll be attending Frog Day at the Atlanta Botanical garden this month and I have a few newbie questions... I've done a lot fo research about PDFs and I feel pretty solid about their care, housing, and feeding... Obviously, though, this is my first Frog Show!

My questions are more about Frog Day vendors... Any recommendations about which companies/breeders will have the best stock and prices? And are the vendor's website-listed prices usually what the frogs go for at a show? Also, what precautions should be taken when taking my PDFs home (I live about an hour and a half from Atlanta). Do I need to bring a container to house them on the way home? Or will an adequate one be provided from the vendor? And finally, are their usually plant vendors? I've been looking for a source for good broms and moss locally and am having little luck...

Sorry for all the questions, but I want to make sure I'm prepared!

Hi Jason,
All good questions. Frog shows are fun not only for the purchasing of frogs, but for the social aspect as well. Talk to the vendors, ask lots of questions. Check out the animals with a keen eye. In my opinion all of the vendors selling frogs there will have top notch frogs. Especially, Todd, Tor, and AZDR of course. Talk to the vendors, ask lots of questions, even ones you already to know the answers to just to see how they respond. But again you really can't go wrong, just don't go over board, and don't get frogs if you don't have a place to put them in when you get home.

Take along a Styrofoam box, or a lunch cooler. I picked up a nice collapsible one at RITE AID for IAD to transport frogs back with. Something that keeps heat or cold in and you should be fine. If you are extra worried then take some warm wet paper towels in the cooler before you add the frogs just to boost the heat and humidity of the container.

That one would have been awesome to attend. Three letters for ya....ABG !

There MAY still have been some "free-range" Histos in there too, around that time. Better than epips at the Baltimore Aquarium, I can tell ya that !

There were, just weren't so easy to see, My wife and I walked ABG a couple times a year to watch the frogs and I'd hit the care takers up for plant cuttings. Id be more interested in a Frog Day that could get the bulk of the active hobby together wherever that would be possible. So many travel issues when its in one of the corners of the country.

Agreed. Chicago is a good "mid range" location for the North East and demographically, there are a ton of hobbyists close enough...

But
