My Six New V-Scape Terrariums
#1
Wes was in town again and this time he delivered six new tanks to me. Thank you again Wes.

These are going to replace the last of the top opening tanks I have on my racks, providing a larger footprint and more height for the frogs. I can't wait to get going on these and sharing with everyone.

Here they are all lined up in the garage, just begging for me to get started.

Confusedhock: - wow this looks like it's gonna be good! I suspect you have a long night of shaping egg crate with zip ties ahead of you Smile Can't wait to see what you do with them!

I hope it is Jim! I have been anticipating changing things over for quite some time. As soon as Wes moved over to the West Coast and was a bit closer I knew it was time. The previous 4 I got from him turned out great so I had to make the change over for the rest of the tanks I had.

Ohh, and no egg crate for me, I get those dang little pieces all over the place. I have this super cool foam I use for a false bottom. Best thing I have ever used and super easy to work with. Big Grin

EDIT: It will be a long night of cork bark puzzle though!

I started backgrounds tonight! I managed to get two cork bark puzzles put together before I ran out of silicone. I will have to make a trip to Home Depot tomorrow for more.

Well progress is slow... Here is the first tank mostly hardscaped and almost ready for planting. I am really liking the size of these new vivs. I wish the camera would show the depth better, it looks quite shallow in the pic...

Unfortunately I am leaving for vacation and will not be able to work on them for a little while. I was really hoping to have at least one ready to go before I left but that's not going to happen.

You could always drop them off at my place on your way out of town.

Just as well, you wouldn't be getting them back anyway.

Thanks, Dustin.

It doesn't compress at all?

It does compress a little if you were to press on it but not very much. I haven't noticed any compression after the viv has been set up, even with drift wood being placed on the substrate.

I use the foam and love it. Never going back.

How long have you had a viv setup with the foam bottom?

A little over two years. It drains great. No noticeable wicking. And no deterioration. Ultra light, super simple to work with... A bit pricey though.

I cut it just a bit small, fill the gap between it and the glass with turface, then too it with abg mix and leaf litter.
10 minutes and the bottom is complete.

Plants will root in it though but that doesn't bother me. I don't often remove any. Once I set up a viv I kinda just let it do its thing.

Well I made it back alive from my little vaca to the Keys. I am going to get working on these again. I have one sparsely planted and just transferred my powder blue pair into it and another ready for planting today.
