Hello from NC

Hi!

I've been looking into setting up a viv for a while now and have decided on dart frogs. I'm not sure exactly what species, but I know to do my research first.

I've been keeping hermit crabs for about 6 years now and I actually have most of the necessary supplies readily available. Mostly I'd be looking at picking up supplies for proper substrate, tank plants, & fruit flies/food.

I have an extra 30gal tank sitting in the living room that's just holding various supplies that I don't have actual boxes for & that's probably what I'll use as my first viv. Though, I may end up going a different route if I come across a good deal for something else (I like the vertical-ness of the Exo Terra terrariums)

Thought I'd go ahead and post while I'm still looking around at all the information. 8)

Hi there and Welcome to Dart Den !

Take a look around - We have a lot of helpful and beginner threads stickied and if you don't see what you're looking for, don't hesitate to ask. We are here to help.

Hermits are very cool. We had a gal here recently with a variety of them - nice pics too, let me see if I can find that thread.

My hermits hang out in a display case I converted into a crabitat. It measures out to be roughly 110 US gallons. I'm no stranger to spending time and money on a great set up for my not-so-furry friends.

I'm really looking forward to putting together a dart frog viv. My plan is to narrow my choice down on what species I'd like before working on setting up the habitat.

Welcome! Your crabitat sounds really cool, you should consider posting a few pix for us! Many years ago I had an iguana, and I set her up in a converted display case that sounds about the same size as yours. I wish I still had that case! How many hermits do you have? Have you been able to breed them?

You are being smart about your PDF viv--you really need to pick your species before you build the viv. Some large frogs need a big footprint--they are more terrestrial, and others, more arboreal, need the height.

I look forward to hearing what you pick, and seeing pix, of course!

I have about 31 hermit crabs. Smile
No breeding in my tank yet. My females are still a little too young. I have one that seems to be old enough, but she just wasn't into it this year. Hopefully next year she'll be convinced.

Right now I'm looking at the Dendrobates tinctorius. I have a few questions about the best set up for them, but I'll save that for a thread of it's own once I come up with all of my questions.
