Orlando,Miami,MACNA and Key west
#1
I am going to be flying in to Orlando this weekend and driving down to Miami for MACNA (marine aquarium conference). After the conference I will be driving to the Florida keys. I have more than a few days to kill.

Anything worth stopping by and seeing for a frog nut like myself?

Key West @ 300 yards from the pier - southernmost point in the entire U.S . / beautiful sunsets yada yada...nevermind all that , they have DART FROGS !!!!!

well...it's actually an Azureus and a small Leuc in a 12X12 exoterra that's on the dry side - housed in the gift shop of the Butterfly Garden. The Garden is actually pretty cool and worth the 10 ducats.

I want to kill time before I get to the keys. I have got plenty to do while I am in the keys. I am hoping to see something around Orlando or on my way to Miami.

However I am sure I will stumble out of an establishment on the NORTH side of Duvall and tell everyone I am going to look at dart frogs.

two words....Sloppy

If you're going to be on the 'old person coast' - the left coast that has Mark Pulowski and Jon on it...then you would HAVE to check out Tropiflora and Michaels broms and those places. Dive the Peace river for Megladon teetch. Hit Sanibel Island for shells and Nile Moniters. Collect some Chamelions around Ft. Myers. Day Geckos and Anoles around Miami. Ret tails, rocks and burms.

Florida ain't the greatest for Dart Frog Collections. Kevin F. in Winter Haven and Mark P. Jon and Dustin in Ft. Myers.

So I am in Orlando with a day to kill....

The drive to Tropiflora and Micheals is worth it?

Meg teeth will have to wait another day... I have quite a collection already. Chameleon and day gecko hunting? I am up for that!

Sloppy Joes?!?!?!?

Which one? The original or the one on the street corner....

Sloppy Joes is still the only bar I have ever had to ask for more coke in my rum & coke.

Tropiflora is 100% worth it. Mark P lives 10 mins away...PM him here.

Orlando is not really Florida. It's the mouse and that's about it.

Sea World has darts on display.

There's only 1 Sloppy Joes !

Last time I was there I sang some of that Cee lo Green girlfriend song and then took a rickshaw back to one of those Hemingway cottages at 5am with cats and roosters walking around making noise 45 mins later.

Good times

I might see you around Miami or Orlando, I usually end up in both areas once a week or two.

Tropiflora is well worth the visit. Get with Antone while your there and see if he can show you around the greenhouses! If you come down the west coast (I-75) I live about 10 mins off the interstate, I would be happy to show off if your interested. Jon lives about 30 mins south of me and he has a great collection.

Justin, Awesome let me know when you are in Orlando or MIA and we can meet up for a beer or something and discuss Saltwater...

Dustin,

My Buddy wants to go to MIA via the East Coast so he can visit his old alma mater. I was really trying to get down that way to visit you and/or Jon, but I guess we will have to wait until next time. But thank you very much for the invite!

We are going to hit a bunch of aquarium stores while in Orlando and now I am thinking we might make an early morning run out to Tropiflora. Then Drive to the coast, turn Right and head to MIA.

Sadly, I haven't found any uber impressive aquariums stores there, yet. If you find any, let know.

No worries Byron, next time!

While in Key West, although Sloppy Joes at the corner is great I much prefer The Original, Capt. Tonys, make sure to toss a quarter to the grouper for me! Big Grin

Oh, and buy a couple aquarium nets and search for seahorses in the sea grasses in the keys! It only takes a few minutes to find a dwarf!

It's lobster season. How you Florida guys even have time to post on the boards is beyond me.

Justin,

World Wide Corals in Orlando?

If you want a REAL adventure , look up Samples around Largo...
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

Some very interesting stories. Not for all viewers...
