Spider Mites harmful to springtails?
#1
Do spider mites effect the population of spring tails? If so how would i fight spider mites? I cant seem to escape them

I assume you mean in the vivarium, as opposed to in Springtail cultures right? Spider mites suck sap ect from plants. I don't think they would have any large adverse effect on vivarium microfauna, especially soil invets.

Those are grain mites not spider mites.

Spider mites will have webs near plants. No webs = not a spider mite.

They might have a food source that you don't see...won't need much. It may seem like they are taking over and multiplying but you'll be surprised how quickly they peter out in a few weeks. No worries.

Thats good to know, i was thinking i have to discard the culture

Oh...I meant the vivarium. If you have an infestation in a culture, the mites are probably happy with whatever it is you are feeding the springtails.

Discarding and getting new springtails from a mite free source may indeed be your best option.
