So I am new to dart frogs and have been wanting them for a long time. I have gotten a 46 gallon bow-front aquarium and I am hoping to put a group of frogs in it by this summer. After finding out their care from lots of websites i still have a few questions: What frog should I get? I was thinking about leucs or auratus el cope do these do well in groups? Are these OK for the average beginner? I have heard the leucs are hard to breed is that true? Also Do dart frogs need specific kinds of wood and leaves or can I use any? What kind of water do you mist them with? And what is a reliable online breeder? Thanks

Short answers:
1. Get frogs local - from a hobbyist and breeder near where you live. Chances are, you can make a friend or at least a fellow contact for future things like fruit flies, supplements and even more...frogs!
2. Both leucomelas and auratus are indeed MORE SO aligned with the 'Group' classification. No single type of behavior can be predicted 100% though.
3. Both of those species are excellent beginner frogs and both breed FAIRLY easily - see #2 above caveat for '100%' designation
4. I would only buy wood and leaves online from a sponsor. Collecting it yourself - you can make mistakes on the type of wood and bring pathogens, hitchikers and other unwanted 'bad things' in with them.
5. Use your local house tap or well water as long as you feel it's safe, otherwise, buy a gallon of any type of SPRING water at your local grocery store
Read up here on the forum in the meantime - plenty of those exact questions are answered in detail in many other threads that are either 'stickied' or are equally easy to find.

I agree with Phil except for the tap water. While it is fine it tends to leave mineral deposits on the glass.

How many leucs or auratus would you recommend in this tank? Here is a picture of the tank itself.

Rough rule of thumb is one adult frog per 10 gallons... plus or minus. That tank looks to be, eh,40 gallons?

My vivs are beautiful, I'd like to be able to enjoy them and take some good pix, what can I safely use to get rid of the hard water stains????
