Sick dart frogs ? Please help
#1
Today I fed my two frogs fruit fly's dusted with repashy vitamin a supplement for the first time. After this my one frog has been sitting in the bromeliad soaking in water all day. The other has been hiding behind a log and hasn't come out. Please help

Can't edit my post for some reason. But is this a sign of vitamin a overdose?

I think you are overreacting here. Both those observations can easily be other things - low tank humidity for the soaking and not well planted or provided with hides, visual barriers or leaf litter.

Describe your overall dusting regimen to include products and frequency.

Also, pics are hugely important to make things easier for us to comment on.

What species ? How long have you had the frog(s) and where did you acquire them ?
Azureus dart frogs. About 7 months old. And I bought them from joshsfrogs.

2. What are your Temperatures -Day and Night - Highs and lows ? Are the enclosure lights too hot ?
Highs are usually around 78 degrees and lows are about 72 degrees.

3. What is the Humidity like ? - Percentage or guesstimate. What type of Water are you using ? Describe your tank/enclosure and it's lid or top.
Humidity is around 80-90% and I am using dechlorinated water. I have a glass lid with about an inch by 18 inches uncovered for air flow.
4. What kind of food are you providing, how much and are you dusting it ? What superfine powdered supplements are you using and are they fresh ?
There are springtails planted in the tank. I feed fruit fly's every day sometimes every other day. I dust with repashy calcium plus and dendrocare switching off each week. I feed the vitamin a supplement (repashys vitamin a) once a month.
5. Any other animals in the enclosure currently or recently ? Tankmates / other frogs ?
The only things have been in this tank are my two azureus. They used to be out all the time and eat like beasts.

6. Any type of behaviour you would consider 'odd' ?
They used to be out all the time but ever since I fed them the vitamin a, they have been very inactive. The one usually soaks in water while the other hides under the log.
7. Have you handled or touched the frogs recently ? Any cleansers, paint, perfumes, bug sprays ect near the tank ?
No I have never touched my frogs.

8. Can you take pictures of EVERYTHING ? The frogs, the enclosure ? Take numerous pics of everything - that will be of great help.
I am not home yet but I will post pictures soon.

That is the tank. 18x18x24 exo Terra. Is anything wrong with it?

Also, neither of them seems eager to eat. Usually they would hear me tapping them in and come hopping right away. They didn't eat any today.

You say they are '7 months old' ? Did you have them for 7 months or did you just get them recently from Josh's ?

How is the water 'dechlorinated' ? Is a chemical added to the water?

Your light seems too bright. Combined with a newly planted / minimal planted enclosure = stress, especially with new animals. I would consider backing the wattage of the light down a bit. Also..is the light resting directly on the glass ? If so, you are probably getting a lot more heat transfer than you think.

I see you have some contact wires for temp and humidity ? Be forewarned that most of the exoterra 'common' store bought reptile probes are inaccurate and complete crap, especially most humidity dials ect. Don't trust them. For temps, use a $30.00 temp gun with lazer. For humidity, use the 'eyeball' method. Make sure there is a inch or so of standing water in the false bottom. Use a hand mister and blast the viv - especially the sides. Check on the viv every so many hours and take note of the water still on the glass tank sides. If it evaporates quickly, then adjust and cover the top more and/or spray and mist more.

Use Vitamin A @ once a month. Dust with vits and the calcium every feeding - alternating and never mixing supplements.

Are you sure you used safe silicone for that background - no chemical smells ect? It cured fine - 100% ??

I purchased them about 5 months ago. Frogs sold from josh's frogs are 2-3 months old. I have josh's frogs dechlorinater/tap water conditioner. I have been using this water for months so I don't think this is the problem. What bulbs would you recommend that still promote good plant growth?

Also my camera makes the light look really bright. These bulbs are the exo Terra ion deodorizing bulbs

That tank is 5 months old ? The plantings look fresh/ new.

Up the spraying. I'd use a hand mister - clean.

The tank is about a month old and a half old and the frogs have been in for about a month. They have been loving it and have been out and about until two days ago when I fed them fly's dusted with vitamin a. Since then, the one soaks in water 80% of the day while the other huddles close to the ground under the log. They have not eaten since. I have the exo Terra digital hygrometer and the thermometer. Humidity is at 90% right now

I have never heard of anyone using this type of bulb. I would be hesitant to even try it. I personally would not use it.
