Why would anyone NOT be planning on collecting fecals? Can you tell the levels of health by looking at frogs? One of the reasons for quarantine is find out about the health of your frogs.
EVERYONE should get fecals done, EVERYONE.

Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

Thank youSmile I am already naming them.. I have enny meeny minny moe ( the retic auratus), Pati and Dadi (Patricias), Luke Luuke luuuke and luuuuke as in Luuuuuuuke I am your father voice (the Luecs), we haven't named the bronzes yet... Putting together the other tank now. It is a 29 ga tank and I am thinking about putting the Pats in with the bronzes in about a month (unless you all say I can't) till my next Viv is ready, should be about 2 weeks. Still wasn't able to buy the wood I wanted so I will order it. I am going to wait till the meeting to get the other supplies I need.. I will order them from Josh as well as bring stool samples for the Fryes.

Keep the containers misted well. Too many flies left in there enclosures can stress them out, and cause them not to eat, but several small portions can be added until you see a few left over from the prior feedings. Be sure to use some good supplements as well.
I'm sure your probably aware of all this, but If the frogs are healthy, you shouldn't have any problems.
Congrats on your new additions

Rich,

Sorry I should have been more clear on that.

I totally agree it is the best preventative action you can take to insure the health of your frogs, and feel that everyone should check every frog they acquire. I was not saying that it shouldn't be done, but that they shouldn't house the frogs long term in such a setup.

I was recommending the moss as a better substrate, than paper towels, for a more long term quarantine enclosure. I would use a more sterile temp enclosure for the collection of the test samples, which would/should be recommended by the vet running the tests. You should be able to collect enough samples, within a few hours, after a feeding and then place the frog back in its longer term quarantine enclosure.

Hi Mike,

I know some froggers use moss as substate. It seems to work. I did however read a post discussing the antibacterial properties of sphagnum moss and the possibility of this actually working against helpful bacterial that break down waste. I belive Ed K. made the comment. Not sure though. Paper towels or moss ? Both my brother and myself have used paper towels in 1.5 gal round tubs for over three years now. Both for quarantine and froglet/juvi raising. The paper towels and 1.5s seem to work surprisingly well for long periods of time. I would not use them as permanent enclosures even though I have read on another forum that a frogger is breeding vents and trying to breed ims in 2.5 gallon. The ONLY reason for anything even close to that cramped space for breeding would be a controlled, scientific study. Well , I can save the time and effort of that, I have had pumilio lay eggs in my 1.5 gallons, so yes, Darts can breed in TINY, TINY enclosures. They also breed when stressed. I call this reaction the " hurry up and breed with me baby, the end of the world is here" stimulus.

The main thing I wanted to express was that both quarantine and fecals should be done on all new frogs. You would be VERY surprised how many top notch "reputable" breeders' collections have NASTY stuff and they think it's fine........
