I guess the question would be, what do you want for their to be locality frogs? Do you want exact GPS coordinates of each frog collected? Are Escudo not locality frogs? I mean, the island is not that freaking big!
The collectors know where these frogs are being caught at, and even more recently, people are asking for them to obtain frogs from these localities. What they are sending matches up with what we know on the morph locality.
Philsuma Wrote:To date, there can NEVER be imported site specific / locale info for Panamanian frogs.
Hence,to date as well, there can NEVER be DNA or other testing.
Quiz - Can anyone (Justin ?) answer why this is ?
This is the reoccurring problem with trying to match up imports with pics ect.

I agree, they came in very variable and my pair looks like my guaramos more than the "rabala". Other people say they look just like the rabalas.

For what it's worth, Dr. Summers identified the first Rio Branco/Guarumo imports as Rambala, so apparently there may be some individuals of Rambala that resemble the new imports in the wild.

Answer:
The 'collection' of Panamanian Oophaga pumilo occur over very different(and highly debatable ownership) tracts of land. Hence, there will be no objective GPS. There cannot be DNA testing either.
We are still trusting 100%, the importer/exporter relationship here.
Who in life, do you trust 100% ?

I started this thread 2 years ago. AFAIK, there was never any such 'revelation' or confrontational thread anywhere on DB....so I wanted to make sure people knew the truth.
Did it piss some people off ? Were there some jobbers and pickers that this thread put a serious cramp into ? I think so.
As for Strictly...they didn't and still don't care as long as there is some demand - in fact, any publicity is GOOD publicity. Isn't that how it goes.

Looks like they posted pictures of eggs and tadpoles now. Still not buying it though.

I asked about it - the above farm, when I was down there a month ago. I remember it well....the day was sunny and very warm, until the minute I asked about CR farming....then the skies became cloudy and the temperature dropped a good 15 degrees. Maybe the company I was in did not wish to discuss such sensitive matters. Maybe my career in law enforcement scared them. Either way, I was not provided with any pumilio OR tree frog farming information whatsoever.
Could those wonderful pics on Pats site be real? Quite possibly and I hope so. Until I see the operation or one of three/four people I trust can vouch for it, I remain...
cautiously optimistic.

Maybe they wish to keep it secret so they don't want to get robbed. Makes sense if you have $1000s in stock and don't wish the wrong person to find out.

People strongly believe in a lot of things, luck, religion, Santa Claus, etc..
Give me facts, photos, and testimony.
