Pretty clear choice so far. Not unexpected IMO either.

Some stuff / arguments may seem petty or hostile, but a lot of good info eventually comes out of it. Also, a lot can be revealed by reading what and HOW people type and respond to each other.

Remember folks. fluff and:

1. Sweet Viv
2. Nice Froggie
3. Sorry 'bout yer loss

won't cut it.

Bear with it, and soon the argument will be over and good info / things will come. That's how the hobby grows and moves forward, I tend to think.

I voted "bring it", but I really think that's a reaction to the sterility on some of the other boards. We as a community need at least one spot that is brutally honest. That being said, I have to admit that when things get too acrimonious, I walk. I suspect others do as well.

For the record, I don't mind all the "Sweet Viv, Nice Froggie, Sorry" threads. I may not read them now, but they really established a sense of community (and therefore responsibility) in me early on, and I made some decent friends through them.

Coke and Pepsi.

Nothing wrong with the occasional "Sweet Viv"....but I just saw a place that basically stated that's all they want. That won't do, IMO.

I like that this is the one place where you can put the cards on the table. Not everything in this world is puppies and rainbows, it shouldn't be with dart frogs either. There are are just as many unsavory things going on in frogs as in the rest of the world. There should be one place where you can call out something for what it really is, and in the dart frog world, this is the place. Thanks Phil!!

Saw a post where someone said " stop using the word smuggled and talking about it.....one day they will scour these boards and use those posts and that language to shut us down". "Just use PM's to discuss all the bad stuff".

hey...if it happens it happens, as far as I'm concerned. And if we do get shut down, then we deserve it for being a f'ed up hobby.

E.U blue jean import of smuggled blue jeans...it happened - I saw it, and there's no freakin' way I'm ever gonna 'eat' that and be quiet about it.

an' that's just one instance...

This forum is indeed 'the conscience of the Hobby".

"B.S...Drama....dirt.....crap...." ?

Nope.

It's all necessary. VERY necessary. Without a forum like this, we will still be in the stone-age of the hobby, where non-information, cover-ups, quashing, favoritism, cronyism ect, will reign supreme.

This forum will cut the cancer out of the hobby. Expose the bad people. Show everyone how it ALL works so we can all be on the same level playing field. THAT is what we will bring to the hobby.

After a while the bad stuff will go away - it always does, and we can get back to taking care of frogs and enjoying them, but we first have to clean house and do some sweeping and turn some lights on.

I apologize for the periods of brief 'hobby interruption" - they tend to happen every once in a while....but we as a whole, will be FAR better off in the long run if we get the heavy lifting done and face the unpleasant stuff head-on instead of deleting threads and posts and pretending everything is all 'kittens and rainbows".

Sponsors moderating Forums ?

Is it a conflict of interest ?

Would the other 'non-moderator' Sponsors feel slighted ?

as always....just some thoughts.

What if you pick 3-5 people and everyone voted on it?

I think the sponsors being moderator is good but some might be to busy to keep up with a forum and their business too.

sponsers + mods don't mix for me. also when someone sells something it should be a certain time after the post that people can "buy". even though phil is the head honcho its not right that he would buy c.r. blue jeans for 100.00 and later post the ad and then write "these" are sold. not picking on you phil.

Walt, you mean that it's GOOD to have a 'delay' with posting an frogs for sale advertisement in the classified section ?

1. The 'delay' / waiting for Moderator approval is what some people hate, as I understand it. That delay allows for one of the moderator staff to swoop in and purchase a frog before it hits the 'common people' for sale area. That has 100% happened a few times exactly like that (not HERE on Dart Den though).

2. The devil's advocate to that, is....the delay allows for the Mod staff to make sure no 'illegal' frogs get splashed onto the classified section and advertised before it's 'verified' that they are legal or not.

If I had to vote for one or the other above...I'd vote for doing away with the delay.

Not sure if that's what you were trying to say here, Walt....but I took a crack at answering it.

Wow, hard to believe... I wonder which DB mod that was...
Darts with parasites are analogous to mixed tanks, there are no known benefits to the frogs with either.

"Walt Speak" is admittedly hard to translate...but I think I got it as well as Rich above, right ?

You (and I) are NOT in favour of a delay right ?

As soon as the ad is made it gets posted, right ? Boom-boom, right ?

I could go either way on this. I guess that really means I have no opinion. I do think it's kinda unethical of a Mod to reply to an ad before the general forum membership has had a chance to look at it, because there is always a chance that none of the other forum members will respond to it. On the other hand the seller always has the right to refuse to sell those frogs to the Mod or anyone else.
I see your point on making sure that no illegal frogs were advertised. I think by and large most people would throw up a big red flag concerning an ad with illegal frogs. I do find it hypocritical that any forum would have to review ads under the premise of keeping the hobby safe and yet still allow ads from Reptiles Etcetera and LLL Reptiles.

Heck Jon, one of those very mods has admitted to buying from Taron recently. Why would he not allow his ads for the same frogs?

"Moddy Snatching' classified advertisements is bad...

but having Businesses / Sponsors as Moderators bespeaks of advancing their own businesses. Can't help but draw that obvious conclusion. Just not cricket at all.

Mark, Justin, ect,

I totally 'get' that Forums are not everyone's cup of tea. There's a thread I made on 'lurking' instead of posting and I feel that covers a lot of the psychological aspects of this issue as well.

If you don't have a thick enough skin, then lurker may be the only way to go.

If you WISH to develope a thicker skin, then I highly recommend posting often. This will 'cure' you of the thin skin mentality. It did for me.

To say that the forums contain 'venom and hate' is absurd and ignorant.

These forums are the life-blood of any animal hobby IMHO. This forum is part of the collective conscience of the hobby. Without it, and constant posting, the hobby suffers and the ANIMALS suffer. Of that I am sure.

That would make me absurd and ignorant

Some people don't want to have a thick skin, just gain and share knowledge.
