Here's one for you, Stu. My female Alanis tinc was transporting tads yesterday. Two of them. That's a first for me! They were gone before I could get a shot though. Sad

I never thought to look, Stu. DOH!
But you can now Glenn, they'll still be there Big Grin Make an old man happy mate,i want to know if there is a tie in betwixt her carrying out tads and her using the same laying site. This is so rare its worth a moment of pondering, you know how my thought process is slightly different to alot of folks, well its times like this (OK bloody rare  ) where it might just be useful, note i did say might

After you posted this, I thought for sure there would be more eggs. When I went look look she was staring inside the hut. No eggs in there, Stu. Go figure. Things that make you say "Hmmm"

Hey mate,I posted a reply last night but probably didn't do something right again, sorry kiddo.
Glenn the consensus was when it happened here that it was accidental,ie the tads got on her back be mistake whilst she was laying,my guts, my observations said otherwise she seemed to know exactly what she was doing and where she wanted to off load, said tads. so I wonder if your case adds weight to that.........well you said go figure
No doubt one could argue co-incidence,an irritant the female must remove, but any other irritant (ff springtail etc) the frog removes with a limb often the hind limb....why not the same with her tadpole
sorted... female knows what she's up to,but lets her fella do all the work unless she wants to claim equal rights or some such
what's new huh?

She knew what she was doing, Stu. Like you say, if it was an irritant she would have knocked it off. She transported them and waited for them to get off, with my big head 6 inches from her face! That says it all in my mind...
Big head 6"..... ha that cracked me mate

same eyes mate same thoughts,(frog)freaky huh

'Ere maybe we're both wrong :?:

but serious for a second I can't find a reason,to suppose other than these females know what they are up to,damn I've tried

best
Stu
No, we're right. Everyone else is wrong!
lol...this thread had become a Glenn-Stu phone call !
It's way cheaper!
Philsuma Wrote:lol...this thread had become a Glenn-Stu phone call !

  not only that ,but we wouldn't be able to understand each other's accents anyway Phil,so phones would be useless ,this way we can at least do this  8)  :?:

'Ere ya go the Phil ya good bro? kerching conference call

more of the other usual stuff(froggywise) will follow bro, just doing alot(most of which IS froggy stuff 8)

Ha Glenn i'm never right...i just think i am and convince the frogs, tis called blagging.

Stu
I think we may need to start a thread to explain Stu's English slang terms; -)

I wish you all would just start speaking American....and by that I don't mean 'George Bush re-tarded Cowboy' American.

I WISH I could manage a Cockney accent and speak 'Pikey' !
Phil you definitely don't want to start speaking Pikey. You had me rolling on the floor with this one: )))

Ben If i wasn't cyrptic,it wouldn't be fun for them  It's also a damn sight easier, for a guy with my abilities,to not speak the king's....Phil trust me Ben's right here

So yup i am going to do more in this post(froggy stuff) but i'm hell bent on a den update if sleep doesn't clobber me first

Shaz's first dream frogs the others will appear later, she wanted adults, we might have all females, but we'll work it all through.
They are too fat and putting them in one of our vivs hasn't helped matters ,Ive treid in vein to qt tinc s but it doesn't work for me,almost every other frog in my humble form of isolation is fine, but tincs ,for me, have to be a chance the viv,tis hard but it is how it is

What next?
how about a little dodge for removing mites from a fruit fly culture, how on earth I didn't think of something so simple ages ago, well what ya see is what ya get!!I don't claim to be clever just care about the frogs and the frogfolks
Vit dust in container...add FF pop on top, with hole cut out. In hole is inserted ff proof mesh, swirl flies, dust coats flies...mites fall off, invert, shake vigorously, mites fall out with dust, flies stay behind..sorted

Cobbling up a couple of vivs, the whole process as been taxing and I'm still fighting with it,basically a coldish spell here has meant every step has been a fight. My results are poor,I'm trying to pull it out of the bag.

I'll detail abit of the madness behind the first build, which is Shaz's other dream from, the cemetery morph of bastimentos, pumillio. Given that i really wanted to somehow make the frogs that will live here be at home,so that includes ...well a tombstone,,,so hours spent looking at pics gave me the idea of incorperating this feature into the viv.Now to have that much dead space in a viv, kills me,so the top will be removable the base is carved out so being hollow will act as a refugium for springs . Look i could have gone the route of my first build for these frogs, but I have some other pums for that viv. This one is all about bringing the breeding all up front for my darling,so she's going to see it all,the frogs we have here, after months and months of trying they finally came,i already know they love cans,so this viv might not contain broms at all. But hell i don't want to look at a photographers dustbin,so although the cans are there, she won't see them, just mum doing the do.So that's the theory,a few shots of the beginnings of the fight,to build what i see,in my head.

Another viv, probably for a species of ranitomeya, this will feature broms, but they should all be pretty much removable,if i get things right,i think its good to show the thought process, even though i may well change track, shows the mistakes for others to dwell on.Broms to be mounted to the bits of wood,a 40cm height means this will be tricky.

finally another gizmo, maybe a means to move some pums and their kids from a tub to a viv. I took a holesaw to a bit of oak and then inserted cans,at some stage if the move works out i'll be able to remove this from the viv,by simply removing each can as the froglet exits the water, more thoughtful theories huh.

bye ya'll

Lovely Stu...just lovely !

What great work you are doing with deposition cups too. Groupings of cans - a lot of thumbnails like to use those.

Great pics as always. One day I'm coming over there to hit the pubs again and look for the black cat of Exmoor and I'll be ringing your doorbell.

Cheers,

~P
Thanks Phil and your welcome, you just have to remember how small our little set up is.

Learning slow but sure mate, nothing really written in stone yet,its all a work in progress. But slowly we are building our collection and experience. which ever way I look at it,the very slow way in which we have gone about this has been a massive plus factor,as it gave us such a solid foundation to work off.Being really familiar with the feeders before ever having frogs must rate as the single biggest plus factor in my eyes.

Juan

Juan, good luck with those finals,go for it buddy, jees i nearly forgot the thanks  Tis a shame we are all busy, tis the way of the world at the moment.

For Chuck,
(whose been taking some inspiring pics of late),buddy get one of these heavy things one sticks on the end of a camera. My waiting and final gamble at the weekend has already produced this, truly I can take no credit, but i do know this is the right tool for taking some of the pictures i yearn for.Its a 100mm macro usm,not mint or perfect and not the more upmarket L IS version
I don't know the equivalent for your camera other than 100mm macro or thereabouts is what we are looking for.I bumbled around while Shaz was feeding,no real thought just playing,I'll stop waffling and show you what I mean one big little frog
